New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the New York State Department of Health to improve healthcare by collaboratively leading, connecting, and integrating health information exchange across the State.

Founded in 2006 by healthcare leaders, NYeC works to help New York State achieve the Triple Aim of improving the patient experience of care, delivering better health outcomes, and reducing costs. On behalf of the State, NYeC leads the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY), a network connecting healthcare providers statewide, develops policies and standards that support the utilization of health technologies, and assists healthcare providers in adopting and effectively using electronic health records.

Position Summary:

NYeC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Information Security Intern to join our Information Security team. This internship provides hands-on experience in cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance. You’ll assist in maintaining and improving the security posture of our systems, networks, and data.

This role is for a part time position (27 hours per week or less) and will be paid $20 per hour. This position is expected to begin this month, in June 2025 and go through the summer. There may be an opportunity to extend this internship into the fall/spring semester as well.

This role will require you to work a hybrid schedule (some days will be in person in our Albany office and other days remotely). You must be able to commute to the Albany, NY office. Your exact work schedule will be determined in coordination with your supervisor.

Key Responsibilities for this position include:

• Assist with work related to HITRUST certification requirements and SSP Workbooks
• Assist in monitoring and analyzing security alerts from various systems.
• Support vulnerability scanning and help track remediation efforts.
• Help with the review and documentation of security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Participate in internal audits and risk assessments.
• Aid in the investigation of security incidents and breaches.
• Research and stay current on the latest cybersecurity threats and trends.
• Assist with security awareness training initiatives and content creation.

Experience and Skills:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Familiarity with basic networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of integrity and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

• CompTIA Security+, CEH, or other related certifications (or studying toward).
• Understanding of NIST Cybersecurity Framework, HITRUST, or ISO 27001.
• Exposure to security tools (e.g., SIEM, antivirus, endpoint protection).

Expectations of Employees:

• Barring specific exemptions, team members are expected to work from the office on a regular schedule determined by the COO and on other days specified by their manager (no less than 1 day per week in the office). This schedule is subject to change.
• NYeC supports work happening across New York State. From time to time our team members must visit other parts of the state. The most common requirement is for a New York City based team member to travel to Albany and vice versa.
