POSITION SUMMARY:   

        

Our Life Insurance Underwriter evaluates and assesses applications submitted by field agents to determine risk and eligibility for all lines of business sold by our agents, including individual life, health and fire applications. Using the resources provided, information obtained from the application and third-party vendor information to request requirements and provide sound decision recommendations for issuing or denying coverage in line with Company guidelines.

The right candidate will maintain good relationships with our field agency, home office departments, vendors and leadership, including effectively communicating via written and verbal communication.

LOCATION: Remote role working near St. Louis, MO metro area, otherwise working from a US based home.  Minimal travel required as business needs dictate.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively and efficiently evaluate risk obtained from application and vendor information including medical records, prescription history data, consumer data, medical claims data, criminal background checks, electronic inspection reports, motor vehicle reports, paramedical exams, laboratories results
  • Utilize underwriting guidelines for various products and provide proper recommendations
  • Make sound underwriting decisions based on available information
  • Keep detailed and accurate case file notes
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree or equivalent with minimum 3 years of underwriting experience
  • Life underwriting experience preferred
  • Experience in collecting requirement data, reviewing data, researching, problem solving and decision-making skills with minimal guidance
  • Previous role being self-directed and ability to complete duties with limited supervision
  • Experience with multi-tasking and ability to meet changing deadlines
  • Proven track record of excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented with high degree of accuracy
  • Exhibit ability of being highly organized and flexibility to changing guidelines
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Previous role providing excellent customer service skills
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
