Position Overview

The National Architect provides visionary leadership and direction for the company’s architectural design strategy, focusing on energy-efficient designs. The position is also a strategic partner to our division product development, marketing, and operations teams and defines our external architectural partnership strategy.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Direction

  • Develop a national architectural design strategy that is agile and responsive to customer and industry trends, integrates energy-efficient and cost-effective building practices, and recognizes functionality while incorporating aesthetically pleasing design.
  • Partners with senior leadership to align architectural designs with the Beazer brand identity and
  • Provides direction and guidance to product development teams within the division.
  • Defines and establishes architectural best practices, a common language and patterns, style guidelines, and functional consistency.
  • Oversees Beazer’s model home program, ensuring the design aligns with our standards and that the details resonate with the market's consumer base.

Technical Expertise

  • Executes all aspects of architectural design, including conceptual studies, preliminary sketches, floor plan design, and elevation design.
  • Ensures designs adhere to local building codes and regulations - zoning, structural integrity, and accessibility standards.
  • Exhibits a high-level of creativity, foresight, and architectural judgment in anticipating and addressing unprecedented architectural challenges.
  • Stays updated on changes in new technologies, trends, and innovative best practices in architecture, and advises on product development.

Relationship Management

  • Provides oversight for external architectural partnerships, including conveying Beazer’s architectural directions, establishing and maintaining partnerships, and setting delivery goals and metrics.
  • Collaborates with marketing, national accounts, product development, and other departments to facilitate the transition and implementation of initiatives.
  • Serves as the architectural design subject matter expert across the business segments.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, or equivalent experience.
  • Passed the Architect Registration Examination and state licensed.
  • 10 plus years of experience with a focus on residential architecture.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of architectural design, including conceptual studies, sketching, floor plans, elevations.
  • In-depth knowledge of single family and townhome product design, building codes and regulations, and accessibility standards.
  • Proven design talent and keen eye for detail.
  • Thoughtful communicator and problem solver; excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate customer insights and market trends into visual drawings and models.
  • Results-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced work environment and comfortable in a consultative role with business leaders at all organizational levels

  • Typical office environment.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
  • 20% travel to various communities or divisions.
