The Site Safety & Hazmat Coordinator oversees transportation, safety, and hazardous materials (Hazmat) regulatory compliance within the assigned region/site, aligning with organizational safety goals and regulatory requirements. This role guides regional operations management, fostering a proactive safety culture while ensuring adherence to FMCSA, OSHA, DOT, and 49 CFR (Hazardous Materials Regulations). This Coordinator collaborates with regional and divisional leadership to develop and implement safety and Hazmat strategies, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement.
Job Description:
Safety Leadership & Compliance: Promote and enforce safety policies, programs, and initiatives to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory compliance, including all applicable Hazmat regulations. Audits, inspections, and assessments are conducted to monitor site safety performance and adherence to OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, and 49 CFR. Ensure equipment compliance with federal and state safety requirements, including those related to the transportation of hazardous materials. Partner with operations leadership to integrate safety and Hazmat considerations into daily business practices.
Training & Employee Development: Train and mentor drivers, clerical staff, and management on safety protocols, regulatory compliance (including specific Hazmat transportation regulations), and risk management. Lead safety training programs, including FMCSA and OSHA compliance, hours of service, drug testing, equipment safety, and Hazmat awareness. Develop and deliver site-specific safety and Hazmat training sessions.
Incident Investigation & Reporting: Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions, including those involving Hazmat. Maintain accurate records of incidents, complaints, and compliance activities, including Hazmat-related occurrences. Ensure proper accident reporting to regulatory agencies, including notification of hazardous materials releases. Analyze safety data trends and provide performance reports with actionable insights, including trends related to Hazmat transportation safety.
Risk Management & Operational Support: Assess fleet readiness and advise on maintenance & repair needs, considering the safe transportation of hazardous materials. Foster a safety culture by engaging with employees and customers to implement the best practices, including those for Hazmat handling and transport. Collaborate with regional and corporate leadership to develop short\"and long-term safety and Hazmat strategies.
Data Analytics & Performance Monitoring: Maintain safety databases and dashboards to track compliance, incidents, and key metrics, including those related to Hazardous Material Transportation. Provide comprehensive safety performance reports to leadership weekly and monthly, specifically on Hazardous Material compliance and incident data.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety or a related field (preferred) or equivalent operational experience.
3-5 years of safety experience in the transportation/logistics industry, including experience with Hazmat regulations.
Familiarity with Environmental, Safety, & Health protocol/practices, including those related to the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
CSS/CDS certification preferred.
Strong knowledge of FMCSA, OSHA, DOT, and state regulations, with a comprehensive understanding of 49 CFR (Hazardous Materials Regulations). Certification as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or in Hazardous Materials Transportation (HMT), or completion of OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training preferred.
Valid driver's license (Commercial Class A preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety management tools (Power BI, LYTX, Weather-Tomorrow IO, Salesforce).
Possesses exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including robust leadership and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to train, coach, and influence employees at all levels, including Hazmat-related topics.
Adaptability to accommodate varied work schedules and the ability to travel as necessary (up to 50%).
