Key responsibilities:

  • Complete day-to-day project tasks for successful project delivery, including preparation of specification packages and structural drawings.
  • Design and analyze transmission lines and foundations, ensuring compliance with client codes and standards.
  • Coordinate and develop permits for railroads, roadways, and environmental crossings.
  • Assist in quality control and assurance of projects, providing peer reviews and technical guidance.

Job description

GAI is seeking an EIT 2 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. The successful candidate will be eligible for remote work.

The EIT 2 is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of projects within GAI’s Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.

Competency 

  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
    • Preparation of Specification Packages
    • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
    • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
    • Design and Analysis of foundations.
    • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
    • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
    • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer reviews.

Education and Training Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering is required. Preferred a degree in Civil, or Electrical engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) licensure required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in transmission line design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transmission line design concepts and principles.
  • Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
  • Required experience with PLS suite (PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE) and FAD Tools.

Travel Required: 

  • 10%

Minimum Years of Experience

  • 2+ 

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure

  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and obtained engineer-in-training (EIT) or engineering-intern (EI) certification.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Performs basic design tasks.
  • Assists on tasks such as: field activities, material testing, CADD work, permit applications, and report writing.

Project and Task Management

  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
  • No managerial responsibilities at this level.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives close supervision on most aspects of assignments, particularly on difficult problems, and a general review of all aspects of work.
  • Receives mentorship from a licensed engineer.

Communication Skills

  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Engages in few project stakeholder interactions.
