ADMINISTRATOR, MMED, ELEMENTARY

48G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department , the Administrator, MMED, Elementary provides leadership for TK–5th/6th grade instructional programs and oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs serving English learners, migrant and refugee students, Standard English learners, and American Indian and Indigenous students. The administrator also leads Dual Language Education (DLE), World Languages and Cultures (WLC), and Unified Enrollment (UE), promoting bilingualism and biculturalism for TK–5th/6th grade students and programs. Aligned with the District’s Strategic Plan and the Multilingual Multicultural Master Plan, this role advances system-wide equity by addressing barriers related to race, culture, gender, and other factors impacting student achievement.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for TK–5th/6th grade instructional programs and oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs serving English learners, migrant and refugee students, Standard English learners, and American Indian and Indigenous students
  • Provides expertise in the formulation of District policy related to multilingual multicultural student academic achievement, compliance, and budget management
  • Administers the development and implementation of District-wide MMED initiatives and programs in coordination with and District leadership teams
  • Administers operations designed to transform school culture and improve the academic achievement of historically underserved populations
  • Oversees implementation of a multi-tiered systems of support framework to promote equity for underserved students
  • Administers the implementation of staff development programs that relate to elementary, including instructional programs/services for specialized programs, and TK-5th/6th grade priorities
  • Leads planning and coordination of professional development, EL compliance, and data platform training with District leadership, administrators, and other appropriate staff of other divisions
  • Administers the implementation of all necessary federal, state, and District policies related to English Learner academic achievement and the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)
  • Oversees instructional and operational support for MMED school-based positions in elementary schools
  • Administers compliance audit oversight as it pertains to English learners with other divisions in the District

Continued Primary Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Leads development and training of English Learner program content for the District English Learner Advisory Committee
  • Directs and coordinates activities of MMED staff that support elementary schools
  • L eads the establishment, revision, and implementation of guidelines for elementary school courses of study, skills continuums, proficiency testing program, scheduling, organization, retention/promotion, and graduation requirements for the District
  • Analyzes District performance assessment and outcome results for grades TK-5/6; analyzes District elementary school educational programs for effectiveness in improving student achievement for English learners, migrant and refugee students, Standard English learners, American Indian and Indigenous, and students participating in DLE and World Languages and Cultures programs
  • Serves as a liaison for the executive director between regions, LAUSD Board of Education, and all divisions in the District
  • Develops and monitors budget plans, activities, and expenditures
  • Evaluates and directs the performance of assigned personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Salary

48G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($161,357 – $201,220) – 261 paid days

NOTE: This position will close on June 30, 2026.

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits. However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural and Bilingual Master Plan coursework*
  • Applicants have one year to complete this requirement.

Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

Desirable Experience/Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in moving substantial numbers of English learners to target language proficiency
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the California content standards and English Learner Development (ELD) standards, research-based content knowledge, and EL pedagogy, and of culturally & linguistically relevant and responsive teaching
  • Leadership experience demonstrated by a successful track record of improved student achievement
  • Conferred degree in bilingual education or second language acquisition
  • Experience using a multi-tiered approach to instruction that promotes access to core and academic English proficiency for all students
  • Experience using technology for data collection and analysis and to promote academic proficiency for English learners
  • Experience in designing and delivering professional development using adult learning theory that aligns District policies to regions and schools’ priorities and needs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and other targeted language
  • Ability to build consensus with and develop collegial relationships with staff and stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, socioeconomic groups, and community-based organizations
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the District
  • Experience with supervision and evaluation of staff
