Position Summary:

 

Our Solution Engineering team is a strategic partner to the sales organization and responsible for building a compelling vision of Bentley solutions for our users and prospects in some of the largest organizations in the world.

 

As an Application Engineer at Bentley Systems with a focus on the energy sector and the electric grid, you will be the technical sales lead in demonstrating and supporting digital solutions that address the evolving needs of electric utilities and energy infrastructure. Leveraging Bentley’s comprehensive software portfolio, you will help clients modernize grid operations, optimize asset management, and enable the transition to a low-carbon, resilient energy future.

 

Your Day-to-Day:

 

  • Develop deep technical expertise in Bentley’s energy and grid-focused software, including:
    • Bentley OpenUtilities Designer for network modeling, design, and analysis
    • Bentley OpenUtilities Substation for substation design
    • ProjectWise and Bentley Infrastructure Cloud for project delivery, data management, and collaboration
    • AssetWise for asset performance and reliability management
    • iTwin Platform for digital twins, real-time monitoring, and predictive analytics
  • Support adjacent applications and inherent workflows in the transmission and distribution space with knowledge of PLSCADD and SPIDA.
  • Collaborate with Solution Managers and clients to gather requirements and design, prototype, and validate technical solutions for electric utilities and grid infrastructure.
  • Integrate geospatial data, CAD, and BIM workflows to support planning, design, and operations of electric grid assets.
  • Identify workflow and dataflow gaps, recommending integrations or product modifications to meet client needs.
  • Deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, often in highly competitive environments.
  • Develop and deliver demonstration content and support go-to-market activities for new energy and grid solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Product Management, User Success, Marketing) to align technical and business requirements, often in RFP and RFI pursuits for new business.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to clients throughout the solution lifecycle, collaborating with post-sales technical support for trouble shooting.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies in the energy and electric utility sectors.

 

What You Bring to The Team:

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the energy, electric utility, or related engineering domains.
  • In-depth knowledge of Bentley’s software for energy and electric grid applications, especially:
    • OpenUtilities (design, analysis, and management of electric distribution and substation networks).
    • ProjectWise and Bentley Infrastructure Cloud (cloud-based collaboration and project delivery.
    •  AssetWise (asset management, reliability, and performance).
    •  iTwin Platform (digital twins for real-time grid monitoring and analytics).
  • Experience with CAD/BIM, GIS, and geospatial technologies for utility network modeling and asset management.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data storage, data integration, and interoperability with third-party platforms.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management, and sustainability practices in the energy sector, with a focus on alternative energy transition technologies.
  • Strong grasp of the challenges facing electric utilities, including grid modernization, distributed energy resources, regulatory compliance, and resilience against climate risks.
  • Awareness of industry best practices for digital transformation in grid planning, design, operations, and maintenance.
  • Recent and relevant knowledge of major software vendors in this space is desired for competitive displacement and coexistence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to deliver compelling presentations and demonstrations tailored to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with internal teams and external clients to drive solution adoption and success.
  • This is a full-time role expected to work 40 hours per week, home-based, anywhere in the US, with the ability to travel.
  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements). The role requires communication with managers, peers and other colleagues of the company in person (on occasion), and by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling and meeting functions.
  • Travel for this role is up to 30% to account locations, Bentley offices, conferences and related training venues, mostly domestic but some international as required.
