Job Description
Purpose:
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Psychiatric Nursing works collaboratively with other services and disciplines to plan, develop and evaluate comprehensive care for psychiatric patients in the hospital and the community.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for:
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of psychopathology in the assessment and treatment of psychiatric patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of principles of management and supervision in planning Division activities and assisting subordinate staff to meet these on a day-to-day basis;
Evaluations Head Nurses & Clinicians in performance and competency to do the work assigned. Manage Central Sterile Processing’s daily flow.
Participates in Division development/enhancement and solves problems using PI approach & serving on committees.
Participates on assigned committees.
Uses appropriate labor relations principles and disciplinary procedures to counsel staff regarding problematic issues.
Assists in designing monitors PI projects in both the Division and program, interpret results to staff and changes the delivery of care.
Evaluates managerial staff performance, staffing levels/ patterns and patient acuity for their influence on the quality of care and recommends/ implements action as indicated.
Examines problem areas in staff's approach to patients and families and explores solutions considering ethical and legal issues. Conducts regular meetings with all the staff in assigned areas for adequate communication and problem solving.
Recognizes effect of own belief system, personal feelings, and prior experience in supervisory relationship and seeks assistance as necessary.
Works closely with Supervisors to interpret hospital mission/vision statements so staff can communicate these to patients/families;
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
