The Real Estate Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with the company's real estate portfolio, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, and developing and implementing risk management strategies.
Supervisory/Leadership Responsibilities
Ability to communicate and interact with senior leadership and other key stakeholders across the company
General Duties/Responsibilities
Insurance Management:
Manage and review the company's real estate insurance programs, including policy selection, renewal, and claims management.
Negotiate insurance rates and terms with insurance providers.
Serve as an intermediary between the company and outside insurance consultants
Serve a key role in coordinating personal injury litigation and other insurance litigation with insurance carriers, consultants, and coverage counsel.
Review and advise on insurance requirements of leases, loans, contracts, and other documents
Risk Identification and Assessment:
Conduct regular risk assessments of the company's real estate portfolio, identifying potential risks related to property ownership, operations, and investments.
Analyze market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to proactively identify potential issues.
Evaluate the likelihood and potential impact of identified risks.
Risk Mitigation and Management:
Develop and implement risk management strategies and procedures to address identified risks.
Recommend and implement risk mitigation measures, including insurance programs, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
Monitor the effectiveness of risk management strategies and make adjustments as needed.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and internal policies related to real estate risk management.
Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry best practices.
Due Diligence:
Participate in due diligence processes for real estate acquisitions and dispositions, identifying and assessing potential risks.
Provide recommendations to management on risk mitigation strategies.
Reporting and Communication:
Prepare regular reports on risk management activities, including risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and compliance status.
Communicate risk information to relevant stakeholders, including management, legal counsel, and other departments.
Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong understanding of real estate risk management principles and practices.
Knowledge of real estate insurance products and programs.
Familiarity with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to communicate both on the phone and in person with various stakeholders to resolve issues and manage the business.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
At least 5 years of experience in real estate risk management, insurance, or a related field.
Experience driving new processes and procedures throughout various levels of a company
Wages & Benefits
$130,000 - $160,000 annual salary (this is an estimated range, and the final salary amount offered will depend on years of relevant experience, and demonstrated skills and abilities)
