Associates play a key leadership role within Lazard’s Power, Energy & Infrastructure (“PEI”) Investment Banking team. Within a group that spans the entire energy and power value chain, with clients ranging from global corporations, financial sponsors, governments and other key stakeholders, this role will largely support advisory and transaction execution for Lazard’s upstream exploration and production clients and is based in Houston, Texas. The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of quality in analysis and execution of work product on behalf of Lazard’s global client base.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Execute on a wide range of client mandates across mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, recapitalizations, restructurings, capital raising and strategic advisory assignments across the PEI universe, with focus allocated to the upstream sector
  • Perform due diligence and financial analyses and modeling for valuation analysis (discounted cash flow, net asset value, trading comparables and precedent transactions), weighted average cost of capital analysis, ability to pay analysis, transactions and company operating model forecasts
  • Prepare and create client presentations and meeting materials, investment memoranda, client updates and other key transaction documents
  • Interact with client senior executives and articulate financial concepts
  • Help to manage various facets deal processes through coordination with cross-functional teams (including technical A&D professionals, among others) to ensure seamless transaction execution
  • Conduct market and company-specific research using industry-standard tools and data services (e.g., Enverus, Wood Mackenzie, etc.)
  • Review work product to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Mentor and coach Analyst bankers via constructive feedback

You’ll need to have:

  • At least one year of investment banking experience at the associate level in the Power, Energy & Infrastructure (or related) industry, with meaningful exposure to upstream exploration and production deal flow
  • Top academic performance with comfort operating in an environment which values initiative, creativity, maturity, and poise
  • Strong quantitative background and analytical skills coupled with meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of financial statement analysis, valuation methodologies and upstream exploration and production industry dynamics
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills with ability to multi-task while maintaining the highest standards of quality
  • Motivation to work as a team player and contribute to a positive team culture
  • Bachelor’s degree required (with preference for Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related field); an MBA, CPA, CFA and/or JD would be an asset
