Marker-Grader positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
· Master’s Degree Complete ($34.10/hour) - Paid to employees who have completed a master’s degree. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· Undergraduate Degree Complete ($29.40/hour) Paid to employees who have completed a four-year honours degree or a three-year pass degree. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· Third Year Complete ($21.70/hour) - Paid to employees who have completed the third year of an undergraduate honours degree. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· Second Year Complete ($19.09/hour) Paid to employees who have completed the second year of an undergraduate degree. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· First Year Complete ($18.00/hour) Paid to employees who have completed the first year of an undergraduate honours degree. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
Duties
The number of nominal hours assigned to a Marker-Grader may vary from department to department and from course to course. Total stipend will depend on course enrolment but will consist of 3 hours x number of registered students. Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement and may include but are not limited to, Marking essays and/or assignments; Maintaining accurate records; Helping students overcome difficulties that they may encounter when dealing with course material; Other related duties as assigned by the Instructor.
Qualifications
1. Must have completed or be enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52/61/62/71/72 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53/61/62/63/71/72/73, within the previous five years; OR Minimum 3rd Year complete in a PSYC BA or BSc program, with an average of at least 80; and have taken this course within the previous five years, and achieved a grade of at least 80. Previous successful experience as a TA in this course in an academic setting will be considered as equivalent.2. Must demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course to clearly explain all course topics; 3. Must have strong writing and editing skills and a thorough understanding of APA writing style; 5. Must have the interpersonal qualities to be supportive of students; 6. Must have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data; 7. Must have excellent time management skills in order to grade the required course material during the available time frame; 8. Must be adept at providing feedback to students in a constructive manner 9. Must have a strong background and understanding of statistics; 10. Must have a clear understanding of the application of Excel and SPSS software to psychological problems; 11. Must be able and willing to grade material remotely; 12. Must be able and willing to maintain contact with the instructor, teaching assistants and enrolled students by email and audio-video conferencing.
