ABOUT THE ROLE: The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing occupational therapy services to students in the Helping Hand school.

Schedule And Compensation

  • On-site position, Monday-Friday.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Salary range $64,000-$73,000/year (exempt).
  • Salary based on skills and experience.
  • Up to 8% annual bonus potential.
  • 403b retirement plan with up to a 4% company match.

a Typical Day For You At Hh

  • Complete evaluation for students to assess the various functions and skills related to occupational therapy development.
  • Write formal evaluation/assessment reports that include useful information for programming when necessary.
  • Participate in development of writing Individualized Education plans (IEPs) and goals.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans incorporating IEP goals.
  • Develop materials for implementation of treatment plans and programming.
  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation in a timeframe established.
  • Plan, implement and supervise gym activities, equipment, and safety.
  • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary classroom team:
    • Attend classroom and other meetings including IEP and Domain meetings as required.
    • Collaborate with other staff in creating individualized curriculum and programming for each student.
  • Provide consultation and training to other staff members in regard to student occupational therapy needs.
  • Assist teacher in providing for the functional and sensory needs of classroom students.
  • Complete progress report meetings with parents/guardians quarterly.
  • Provide direct occupational therapy to students in individual and in group settings, working with the student and the school team to facilitate a child’s functions and skills related to occupational therapy development.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise social skills groups or other groups as appropriate.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in therapy sessions/groups as required by IEP or School.
  • Provide home programming and training to parents/guardians/caregivers to provide carryover skills in the home as needed.
  • Ensure that the rights of the students are protected in accordance with agency manuals, policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Provide training for staff and others as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Director of the School and Associate Director of School Clinical Services regarding the policies and procedures required by the Board of Education and the student’s home school.
  • Keep abreast of best practice trends in fields of expertise.
  • Shall conform to the policies, procedures, practices, rules, and regulations of Helping Hand.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

LAND THIS OPPORTUNITY BY HAVING:

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Current State of Illinois License for Occupational Therapist (IDFPR).

Experience

  • Experience working which children and adults ages 3-22 years.
  • Experience with autism spectrum disorders and other diagnosis (i.e., Intellectual disability, Developmental delay, etc.).

Skill Sets

  • Ability to fulfill all necessary training requirements of the agency, including but not limited to, crisis management (crisis mangagement training includes de-escalataion strategies and physical management techniques).
  • Ability to conduct and interpret assessments via team and individual evaluations.
  • Ability to plan and conduct individual and group therapies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to promote and adhere to company values.

Work Environment

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about to assist clients/students, access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • The ability to observe details at a close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Consistently position self to maintain files in file cabinets or assist clients/students.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The person in this position may encounter clients exhibiting physical aggression; must be comfortable working in periods of crisis and feel comfortable de-escalating individually or as a team.
