Summary
This job is responsible for supervising the daily operational and personnel activities of the assigned work group of the Pharmacy Department. Oversight requires appropriate level of expertise to oversee the work group according to professional standards and practices. In certain work groups, the Team Leader may also be the Pharmacist In Charge (PIC).
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties of a staff pharmacist including, but not limited to, compounding, labeling and packaging medications, providing advice regarding medication use, dosage, side effects and composition, and monitoring patient profiles.
- Supervise the daily operations of the pharmacy staff; participate in the selection, training, orientation and assignment of staff; assist in the development of standards of performance; evaluate employee performance and conduct coaching and counseling when appropriate; process weekly timesheets; initiate and/or make recommendations for personnel actions.
- Respond to and resolve customer service issues brought forth by other departments or units as they relate to Pharmacy Services.
- Participate in performance improvement activities; represent the Pharmacy Department on hospital committees and projects; assist in maintaining a continuous level of readiness for inspection by external groups.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
This is a Full Time position.
Essential
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Intravenous Certification
- Basic Life Support
- Licensed Pharmacist, Texas State Board of Pharmacy
Work Experience
- At least 2 years Job related experience Required
- At least 3 years Job related experience Preferred
- Completion of a residence program Preferred
EDUCATION
- Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience From an accredited school of Pharmacy Required
- Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Doctorate of Pharmacy Preferred
- Completion of a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Residency Preferred
- 20 hour ACPE accredited IV training course Required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Current Texas licensure and registration as a Pharmacist Upon Hire Required
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements 90 Days Required
- PALS Certification for all emergency care and critical care clinical pharmacists 180 Days Required
- ACLS Certification for all emergency care clinical pharmacists 180 Days Required

- Typical span of control: Administrative 12-15, Clinical 12-15, Support Services 15-17; e.g. Admin: Fin, IT, Legal, HR, Public Affairs; Support Services: EVS, Security, Engineering, Food Services;
- Plans and executes day to day operational needs
- Provides guidance, coaching, and feedback
- Provides input to employment decisions, and participates in performance reviews
- Works within established precedents and practices; receives guidance and oversight from a higher-level manager
- Monitors key day to day operational metrics
- Provides technical guidance to others on a frequent basis and rounds with employees in the team
- Demonstrates an understanding of Children's resource availability
