Purpose Of Role
This position in procures ferrous and non-ferrous scrap for the Midwest and provides analysis and reporting on all commercial business to senior management and to the Commercial organization. The Regional Commercial Manager is responsible for maintaining current sources and generating new sources of raw material (steel scrap) from the local market to supply plant requirements of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal at competitive costs as well as managing and directing the Midwest Commercial Team. Scrap purchasing is the core of our business and shall be conducted using the highest standards of integrity and professionalism at all times. Purchasing scrap metal will be achieved in accordance with all Company policies and guidelines while continuously striving to maximize margins and profitability.
Principal Accountabilities
Manage and direct all activities of the Midwest Commercial Team
Manage the purchase of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap for the Midwest to maximize margins and profitability
Develop new leads and opportunities for scrap metal purchases to maximize margins and profitability
Maintain a good business network and favourable relationships with customers
Develop, exercise, and refine systems and processes to drive business
Review & provide monthly reports including estimated inbound volume, type and grade of material, and price structure for material
Determine, issue, and manage volume, margin, and production goals
Liaise with Operations on issues concerning grading and quality of scrap, pricing and all unique or unusual procurements and situations
Arrange for the transportation of material to plants at the most economical cost and to ensure efficient handling of material
Maintain good communication and working relationship with the transportation department and local operations
Oversee the teams composition of bids, materials pricing, proposals and sale of the Company’s services for outside projects and other unique scrap metal purchasing opportunities
Have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of our operational costs
Collaborate with counterparts and global departments
Participate in special projects as determined by the COO
Demonstrate personal responsibility for, and ensure compliance with, all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives within multiple inter-related teams or regional function with a single team
Promote diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and teamwork, and ensure all workers within multiple inter-related teams or regional function with a single team are treated fairly and equitably
Set budgets and manage costs in line with budgetary requirements and financial policies and procedures
Support, recommend, and implement continuous improvement initiatives and foster compliance with quality requirements in accordance with sub-region’s or region’s functional strategy
Support and ensure compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives within multiple inter-related teams or regional function with a single team
Cultivate well-trained workforce, including support of performance-management, career-development, and succession-planning initiatives
Experience/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; Level 6 award, certificate, or diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
10+ years working in scrap metal industry or related industry. 5 years management experience with direct report Buyers.

Knowledge of and compliance of Sarbanes-Oxley and antitrust rules and regulations
