We’re looking for a detail-oriented
Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Manager, you’ll be the go-to person for payroll, benefits, and entitlement-related inquiries across ISC and its subsidiaries. You’ll ensure accurate payroll processing, support employee benefits administration through Workday, and handle complex time and attendance validations.
In this role, you’ll interpret policies, collective agreements, and employment legislation to resolve a range of employee pay and benefits questions — always with integrity, confidentiality, and attention to timelines. You’ll also contribute to disability and attendance cases and play a key role in managing sensitive employee data.
This Position Also Supports The Administration Of Pension And Benefit Plans For ISC And Its Subsidiaries. Other Highlights Of The Position Include
- Process biweekly and monthly payroll and benefits accurately and on time, including ad-hoc payments such as severance, final pay, RRSP transfers, and retroactive adjustments.
- Ensure payroll data integrity through timely pre- and post-payroll audits to confirm completeness, accuracy, and compliance with corporate policies and legislation.
- Administer pension and benefit plans by ensuring accurate configuration in Workday, managing remittances, and maintaining up-to-date records in third-party systems (e.g., Canada Life, Manulife, PEPP).
- Maintain accurate attendance and entitlement records to support benefit administration and ensure proper tracking of corporate liability balances.
- Provide support in performance-based and year-end compensation cycles, including processing bonuses, in-range adjustments, and other mass salary changes.
- Support attendance management, disability, and performance-related cases in collaboration with HR Business Partners, including preparation of accurate, confidential reporting.
- Oversee the ISC Flexible Spending Account Plan (FSA) by determining eligibility, calculating benefits, managing disbursements, and ensuring accurate tracking throughout the plan year.
- Contribute to payroll-related financial reporting, including accurate General Ledger interfaces and CRA year-end processes such as T4s, while supporting compliance with audit and control standards.
- Support labour relations initiatives, including annual economic adjustments and pay-impacting negotiations, by providing research and resolving union-related pay anomalies.
- Identify and address benefits-related issues, working with the Payroll & Benefits Manager and HRIS Manager to recommend improvements or resolve system/process inefficiencies.
What You’ll Need
- This position requires a certification with the National Payroll Institute or a Human Resources diploma/certificate or equivalent experience in Payroll administration.
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years of practical experience in payroll and benefits administration.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal payroll legislation, Employment Standards, and the ability to effectively interpret a collective agreement and operate in a unionized environment.
- Knowledge and ability to manage legislated yearend processes.
- This client-facing role requires excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to solve problems and resolve issues daily.
- Ability to maintain a high level of data accuracy and manage information with a high degree of integrity, sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask, prioritize work and function under pressure in a fast-paced environment while working towards strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to work effectively in a team environment.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with Workday or other outsourced payroll system(s).
