As an environmental health and safety (EHS) specialist, you’ll ensure compliance across various business groups at Progressive, supporting over 70,000 employees and more than 400 locations. Our diverse work environments range from office settings and remote work to body shops, salvage yards, warehouses, print shops, field operations, data centers, airport hangars, and more. In this role, you’ll collaborate with the team to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations companywide. You’ll conduct thorough investigations of reported incidents, near misses, and complaints. You’ll also develop and maintain companywide safety programs and complete the audit process to identify potential risks and hazards.

This is a hybrid position. We prefer candidates who live near the Cleveland, Ohio area. This position will require occasional trips to the local Progressive buildings/field locations to complete work tasks, attend meetings, and conduct training.

Must-have Qualifications

  • A minimum of six years of related field-level experience in a professional setting (e.g., occupational safety, risk management, environmental health).
  • {OR} Bachelor's degree or higher in safety, environmental science, risk management or related field of study and a minimum of three years of related field-level experience in a professional setting (e.g., occupational safety, risk management, environmental health).
  • This position requires compliance with Progressive's driving standards and/or policy.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Preferred Skills

  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) certification, Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements including OSHA 1910 General Industry and OSHA 1926 Construction Safety Standards; NFPA standards, EPA, Life Safety Code, etc. and be comfortable researching other resources in the field of environmental or occupational safety and health; knowledge and experience in multi-state regulatory compliance
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex information
  • Proficient in root-cause analysis

Compensation

  • $65,500 - $87,300/year
  • Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 24% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
