Position Title: Writer and Content Creator - Special Projects

Status: Regular Part-time

Hours: 24 hours per week

Faculty/Department: Marketing and Communications

Campus/Location: North Campus

Salary: PT Support Payband 9 (Start $29.43 – Max $45.27)

About the Writer and Content Creator Role:

The Writer and Content Creator, Special Projects (WCCSP) is a member of the Creative Services team within Marketing and Communications and is responsible for writing and content creation for integrated

communications that positively enhance the image and reputation of Humber Polytechnic.

Reporting to the Manager, Special Projects, the WCCSP is responsible for the development, flow and completion of copywriting and supporting the production of multi-media content for projects within the department for external and internal audiences. The incumbent is responsible for content development including effective interviewing, journalism subject research and video script writing, production support

for video and photo assignments such as scheduling, talent sourcing, location scouting, workback schedules and onsite for shoots for multiple communication platforms at Humber to support projects

within Marketing and Communications. The role is also required on occasion to develop and edit multimedia content. The role writes or contributes to research & grant proposals, award submissions

and other Humber or project-based publications. The WCCSP also creates content to support the Communications team for strategic, executive, departmental and faculty initiatives.

The WCCSP Has Demonstrated Experience And Strong Knowledge Of

  • Canadian journalism standards, research and journalistic quality writing; CP Style
  • Writing for post-secondary education:
  • for web, multimedia and social media
  • grant/award submissions
  • research proposals
  • Video scriptwriting
  • Multiplatform storytelling and integrating various types of content into one format (article, video)
  • Developing and curating content, leveraging existing brand style and tone
  • Planning and executing interviews for profiles or quotes with industry executives, students, alumni, etc.
  • Photography/Videography to add to/enhance content creation, with smartphone/tablet (DSLR experience is an asset)
  • Project management support for multi-media productions
  • Managing project timelines and milestones
  • Editing video for online, digital channels
  • Event planning and support experience
  • Office administration (e.g. scheduling meetings, purchasing and planning of resources for events/initiatives)

Education

  • Three-year diploma/degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other relevant discipline.

Experience/Skills

  • A minimum of two years working as a writer, journalist, content creator and/or public relations/communications specialist.
  • Key skills include writing, managing, planning, interviewing and producing postsecondary/corporate publications and web content; writing news/ feature stories for print, web and social; supervising editorial flow, logistics, timelines and requirements for all projects; editing print, video and web-based content, superior oral, written, social media communication and interview skills.
  • Experience writing speeches, project briefs/memos and award/grant applications.
  • A self-starting storyteller with journalistic interviewing and writing skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to create and integrate different types of content into published stories and articles.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and support large-scale events with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
