About The Role

We are looking for a confident and competent Payroll Officer to join the IRT Payroll Team. The Payroll Team is responsible for paying employees on a fortnightly pay cycle. Payroll is also responsible for all payroll administration functions. This role will report into the Payroll Manager and is a hybrid role that is located at IRT Market Street in Wollongong.

Job Specific responsibilities

The Payroll Officer will carry out payroll system administration, including:

  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
  • Preparation of Payment Requisitions for processing payments to outside agencies (e.g. employee deductions)
  • Update and maintain employee master files (via systems)
  • Records Management Content Manager
  • Identify system issues and suggest improvements
  • Generating system (HRIS) reports
  • Superannuation legislation, compliance, and reporting requirements
  • Provide support to site based EmpLive users
  • Provide support to My Central users and assist with accessing the system
  • Assist with the End of Financial Year processing.

Be Involved In Employee Terminations

  • Calculation of Final Pay including payments for Annual, Long Service Leave and Severance payments
  • Provide support to employees as required
  • Generate Certificates of Service for all terminated employees on request
  • Provide Separation Certificates for all terminated employees on request

Other Duties Of The Role Will Include

  • To administer all aspects of the IRT payroll including the processing of timesheets, leave and employment related information including but not limited to changes in employment status and exit payments
  • To develop, maintain and manage all reporting requirements, including reconciliations, for the payroll function. Provide information and advice to all employees concerning payroll related matters
  • Other duties as required by the Payroll Manager or Payroll Team Leader consistent with the role.

To Be Successful You Will Have

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to interpret organisational policies and procedures
  • Sound customer service skills with a high level of verbal and written communication
  • Strong understanding of an EA, awards and payroll regulations
  • Demonstrate a proficiency using computer systems including Microsoft Outlook, Word and advanced skills in Excel operating in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment requiring the strictest of confidence
  • Capable of hands-on problem solving, with the ability to generate new ideas and solutions
  • Action oriented, innovative and able to translate broad goals into achievable steps
  • Analytical and strategic in approach to challenges and projects
  • Personal values of integrity, authenticity and transparency.
  • Ability to work in a small multi-disciplinary team in order to achieve common goals but able to work autonomously as required
  • Ability to interpret Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Taxation, Superannuation, Workplace Gender Equality Agency, Australian Bureau of statistics, salary packaging, organisational policies and procedures
  • Experience in using Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).

Desirable Criteria

  • 2+ years’ experience in payroll (desirable but not essential)
  • Certificate IV in Payroll administration (Desirable but not essential)
  • Demonstrated experience with Payroll Metrics Sync Pay software (preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with the EmpLive Time and Attendance software program (preferred)
  • Experience in My Central (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of National Employment Standards, Single Touch Payroll and superannuation compliance.
