Summary

The Associate Vice President (AVP) directs the successful implementation of the organizational strategies through visionary and strategic leadership of assigned territories and is focused on key goals of supporting mission funding, galvanizing supporters, and growing revenue.

The AVP serves in a critical leadership role and works in close partnership with Territory Executives, Chapter Executive Directors and national partners to ensure the effective implementation of organizational strategies related to fundraising, acquisition, awareness, and volunteer activation goals throughout their division. The AVP is accountable for the development of their leadership team, leadership performance, and supports skill building in areas of decision making and strategic plan implementation.  They identify, anticipate, and support change management and communication needs affecting their division and chapters.

Reporting to the VP, Field Development, the AVP actively demonstrates and cascades the enterprise-wide mindsets: integrity, collaboration, results, and stewardship.

The Midwest Division plays a vital role in the organization’s success. The Division includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The Midwest Division has 6 territories, 15 chapters and 81 staff collectively driving over $57 million in total net revenue. 

Primary Role & Responsibilities:

Strategic Direction 60%

  • Executes and delivers strategic leadership to ensure profitable, diversified, and sustainable growth annually within the division through existing and new revenue channels.
  • Provide direction and oversight for a division of chapters, ensuring that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities are met in the core functions of chapter activities – constituent relationship management, Peer 2 Peer, Signature Events, volunteerism, awareness and advocacy.   
  • Partner with the National teams to align and execute local activities with national strategy and to drive growth at the market level in mission impact, engagement and fundraising activities.  Collaborate with global development on identification and stewardship of high potential donors.
  • Provide strategic leadership to facilitate the rapid implementation of best practices, and drive collaboration among Territory Executives, Chapter Executive Directors, national teams, and volunteer leadership.
  • Ensures achievement of progress towards fundraising goals and collaborates with Executive Directors to make adjustments as needed. Analyze key performance indicators using CRM and data analytics tools to assess fundraising and donor engagement effectiveness.

  Operational Excellence: 25%

  • Develops, manages, and attains the annual division budget, and the timely and accurate submission of Breakthrough T1D financial and forecast reports. 
  • Monitor Divisional, Territory and Chapter P&Ls, drive greater cost efficiencies, identifies areas of future growth opportunities.
  • Guide the development and assessment of the division’s annual and monthly budgets and KPIs and ensure accurate financial forecast.
  • Proactively identify, anticipate, and support change management and internal communication needs that impact the field. Ensures proper and equitable distribution of resources to achieve strategic goals. 
  • Prepare regular progress reports for leadership, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting strategies based on data insights. 
  • Represent interests, professionalism, and integrity of Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the Breakthrough T1D mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example.   

Performance and Staff Development: 15%

  • Develop direct reports to new levels of performance and leadership; supports skill building in the areas of strategic planning, decision making, and management.  Drive discipline, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Inspires, leads, and motivates teams while fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment through all interactions with staff and volunteers. Exhibit effective delegation skills to enhance both organizational, chapter, and individual productivity.
  • Lead conflict resolution with a proven capacity to act as a strategic thought partner.
  • Conduct regular team evaluations and performance reviews in accordance with specific metrics and deliverables.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures, including annual training and other compliance requirements.  

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of successful experience in a field-based fundraising organization as well as leading a multi-disciplined team in achieving organizational revenue goals annually.  A minimum of 5 years is preferred in a supervisory capacity. College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a strong ability to resolve complex problems efficiently and promptly, while communicating clearly and effectively. Skilled in creatively identifying solutions and analyzing feedback to establish best practices in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to exhibit the following competencies: Leadership, Diplomacy, Decision-making, Solutioning ability, Financial Acumen, Organization, Flexibility, Strategic thinking
  • Proven record of accomplishment through collaborative leadership, management, coaching and development of staff at all levels. 
  • Skilled in utilizing CRM Salesforce and Microsoft Suite to facilitate data-driven decision-making, performance evaluations, assessment of fundraising and engagement progress, and the execution of strategic plans.
  • A strong inclination to contribute in a team-oriented setting, with the capability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to reach objectives.
  • Able to create consensus among cross-functional teams, facilitate decision making, and bring closure to projects/initiatives.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation/communication, and interpersonal skills; Demonstrates a people-first attitude
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
