Job description

JOB TITLE: Network Engineer 

Summary: This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of network infrastructure, including on-premise and cloud-based environments. The Network Engineer works with clients to build new solutions, troubleshoot escalated critical issues, and maintain network configurations. The individual is skilled in a wide range of networking technologies, including routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, and WAN/VPN solutions.

This role will contribute to the execution of complex networking projects, from requirements gathering through completion, and is expected to provide expert-level consultation on network design and security best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement enterprise-class network solutions for small to mid-sized businesses, with a focus on performance, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with project leads and project managers to deliver solutions within scope and defined milestones.
  • Perform wireless site surveys and implement secure wireless network solutions.
  • Architect, configure, and support advanced routing and switching using Cisco, Meraki, HP/Aruba, Palo Alto and other enterprise platforms.
  • Deploy and manage next-generation firewalls and VPN solutions, including SonicWALL, Palo Alto, Cisco Meraki, and Cisco ASA.
  • Provide escalation support to internal teams and assist with diagnosing and resolving critical infrastructure issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including complex Visio diagrams and client network documentation.
  • Adhere to and improve network design and implementation standards for clients.
  • Participate in training and certification programs to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This account has an interactive, fast-paced work environment. Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule and/or evening/weekend hours to meet customer needs and project timelines. Engineering functions often involve after-hours deployments. Capability to work from home or a remote location is required by this position. Remote work and work-from-home arrangements are made at the discretion of the Service Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with enterprise networking hardware and software.
  • Minimum of 3 years of MSP experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in wireless design, analysis, and implementation.
  • Proven experience conducting wireless site surveys.
  • Expert-level knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP.
  • In-depth experience with Cisco Nexus (3k/7k/9k), Cisco Meraki, Palo Alto and HP/Aruba network devices.
  • Expertise in WAN and VPN technologies, including MPLS, DMVPN, IPSec VPN, and EVPL.
  • Strong background in network segmentation, security, and virtualization.
  • Experience working with firewalls (SonicWALL, Meraki, Palo Alto) and load balancing solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of routing protocol redistribution and routing metric manipulation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Visio for documentation.
  • Previous consulting experience in a managed services environment is strongly encouraged.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute to a collaborative team culture.

Education/Certifications

  • University degree and/or related technical diploma preferred.
  • Cisco certifications: CCNA required; CCNP/CCDP encouraged.
  • Wireless certifications strongly encouraged.
