Torbay Children’s Services is seeking to recruit a creative and innovative educational psychologist to expand its existing team of skilled and friendly staff, as we develop and grow. We welcome applications for candidates seeking both part time and full time roles.
We are interested in hearing from experienced EPs, those at an earlier stage of their career and trainees currently on educational psychology doctoral training programmes. We warmly welcome applications from trainees qualifying in September 2025.
The Educational Psychology Service is a highly valued team within the local authority. We seek to offer a balanced workload of traded and statutory work and are pleased to offer the opportunity to be part of projects focussed on early identification and prevention. We offer a consultation-based model of service delivery, alongside opportunities for in-depth casework, systemic work and time to further develop professional interests, wherever possible. Essential:
The full range of skills as appropriate to a fully qualified educational psychologist.
Sensitivity in working with adults and young people; both individually and in groups.
Ability to work with colleagues and clients in an empathic and supportive way in situations where clients and their families may feel anxious or distressed.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Knowledge
Essential:
A broad understanding of issues surrounding general developments in psychological and educational assessment and intervention.
Knowledge of both normal and abnormal development in childhood and adolescence (including the most commonly occurring conditions).
Knowledge of a range of approaches to intervention, as appropriate for use in schools and other everyday settings.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
Experience of work in relation to young people and children with special educational needs.
Experience in using a range of psychological assessment and intervention techniques.
