What you'll be doing
CIBC Asset Management (CIBC AM) is one of Canada's largest asset management firms with approximately $180 billion in assets under management and possess over forty-five years of experience designing and implementing client solutions. In this position, you will report to the Executive Director & Head of ETF Distribution and the Senior Director of ETF Distribution, with the primary objective of generating and retaining assets within the CIBC ETF product suite. You will collaborate with various distribution channels to enhance their existing efforts while directly engaging with retail and institutional buyers who primarily utilize ETFs. To succeed, you should have a strong background in the ETF space, showcasing your expertise in capital markets, index and factor investing, as well as active and asset allocation strategies. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining ongoing interactions with senior management and building productive relationships with support organizations to drive success in your role.

How you'll succeed
- Strategic market insight - You will utilize your extensive knowledge of ETF solutions to effectively communicate with Investment Advisors and Investors. Engaging in informed discussions about quantitative analysis, market trends, and financial planning will be key. You will also need to differentiate CIBC's products from competitors, collaborating with internal teams like Product, Marketing, and Compliance to meet organizational goals.
- Territory management and client engagement - You will strategically manage a designated territory to generate sales and revenue, consistently meeting and exceeding objectives. You will actively solicit and gather feedback from clients and financial advisors regarding CIBC's ETF products and services. By collaborating with product development and marketing teams, you will integrate this feedback into product enhancements and new offerings, ensuring that client needs are effectively met while driving sales growth in your territory.
- Relationship and stakeholder engagement - You will cultivate and manage key relationships with professional buyers and build strong connections within the CIBC Private Wealth & Wood Gundy network, as well as with third-party clients. Leveraging your network, you will drive ETF sales while collaborating with various colleagues across the enterprise to enhance partnerships and support sales initiatives. Your understanding of the advisor client base will enable you to provide tailored solutions that meet their objectives. Additionally, you will offer sales support and strategies to help advisors in the ETF space grow their businesses effectively.
- Education and industry leadership - You will lead educational initiatives and train partners and distribution teams to enhance awareness and understanding of CIBC's ETF offerings. Staying ahead of industry trends, you will deliver compelling presentations that position CIBC as a thought leader in the ETF space, ensuring that both internal teams and external partners are well-informed and engaged. With strong sales leadership skills, you will develop plans to exceed targets, supported by your motivation and organizational abilities. Your investment knowledge across various asset classes, combined with your understanding of capital markets and asset allocation strategies, will further enhance your effectiveness. Additionally, your business acumen will enable you to identify opportunities and implement successful strategies while maintaining a mindful approach to risk in your decision-making.
- Tracking and collaboration - In this role, you will maintain comprehensive activity logs in the contact management system and work collaboratively with Sales Management on various strategic projects and initiatives, ensuring effective tracking and alignment with overall sales goals.
- Market insights and performance analysis - You will continuously monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes within the ETF landscape. You will provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management and the sales team to inform strategic decision-making and product development. Additionally, you will regularly assess and report on sales performance metrics for the ETF product suite, identifying areas for improvement and developing targeted action plans to address performance gaps, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and sales targets.
Who you are
- You have a graduate degree in business, finance and/or economics is desired. Successful completion of Canadian Securities Course required. CFA, CFP, and/or CIM designations would be an asset. 15+ years of experience in ETF sales or a related financial services role, with a proven track record of success.
- You can demonstrate your experience as a high impact player in the ETF asset management sector. The individual will be recognized for: overall knowledge within the industry, strategic thinking, sales results, and client service. Extensive product knowledge in ETF solutions. Demonstrates high level of comfort in communicating this information to Investment Advisors and Investors. Can converse knowledgeably with Investment Advisors, portfolio managers and other key contacts about roles of quantitative and performance analysis, awareness of markets and industry issues, financial planning and other pertinent topics. Able to position and differentiate products and GAM as a company against competing companies, portfolio managers, services and products is critical to success. Demonstrated experience working with internal partners, including Product, Marketing & Communications, Client Portfolio Managers, Portfolio Managers, Legal & Compliance, and Total Investment Solutions to achieve overall organization/department goals and objectives. Must have capability in developing marketing strategies and proven track record of executing strategies to grow market share. Strong investment knowledge with extensive experience across a range of asset classes, including both public markets and alternatives; deep understanding of capital markets, index and factor investing, and asset allocation strategies.

Demonstrated knowledge of the advisor client base, an understanding of their businesses and helping meet advisor needs so they can achieve their goals. Focused on providing optimal and intelligent solutions to specific advisor client requirements. Ability to provide sales building and support ideas and techniques to advisors in the ETF space, to help them advise their clients and grow their business. Ability to network effectively throughout the advisor client base and senior leadership within CIBC Private Wealth & Wood Gundy and third-party firms. Experience setting and managing advisor relationships and sales processes and the related infrastructure to enable high performance content and communication with advisors. A well-respected and well-recognized leader in Canada’s retail asset management business environment. An individual who has established relationships with both investment advisors and senior head office personnel in the Canadian investment dealer community.
