About the Role
Opentrons is seeking a Field Applications Scientist (FAS) with a strong customer focus to support installations, training, protocol development, and customized robotics solutions for customers and collaborators using Opentrons’ fleet of robotic systems.
The ability to communicate with customers both pre- and post-sales, interact with marketing, internal support, and development, and communicate results to diverse audiences are important aspects of this role. In addition, pre-sales and post-sales activities will be conducted in conjunction with our Sales and Service organizations.
This individual will be working in a fast-paced commercial environment, interacting with customers as well as other scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds. This individual is a partner to the customer in the understanding and use of our liquid handling robotics systems.
Field Applications Scientists report directly to the Director, Field Applications Sciences.
What You Will Do
Work with Sales to identify business opportunities, understand customer research needs, and position appropriate Opentrons products and solutions, serving as the technical and scientific expert
Run the onboarding call with the customer post sale. This can be answering customer questions related to robot functionality, protocol development, protocol pathing, and many other concerns
Complete remote or on-site protocol development, including protocol writing, development, optimization, and confirming customer success
Serve as a point of contact for customers as they complete the protocol development cycle
Work with Technical Support team to provide timely technical and application assistance in response to customer inquiries
Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and key opinion leaders in assigned territory
Be a customer-minded individual with the empathy to understand customer concerns
Attend local and national trade shows as required by sales and marketing teams.
Who We Are Looking For
Education:
Experience:
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a customer facing role, specifically in the life sciences industry; Masters/PHD in Life Sciences or Biomedical Engineering major will be considered in lieu of industry experience
Prior experience with liquid handling automation and/or Opentrons robots strongly preferred
Prior experience with Salesforce preferred
Prior experience with GitHub preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Fast-paced environment with a high volume of work to be completed
Some physical effort required, including installation of robots
50% overnight travel required, though up to 75% may be required to meet business need
The candidate must reside near an international airport
Compensation Range: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between €55,000 - €67,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered and the country of residence. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
