Job description

This is a remote position.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Mortgage Underwriter  with strong expertise in U.S. mortgage underwriting and/or mortgage disclosure processing. This role is ideal for professionals with comprehensive exposure to active mortgage production environments who can apply deep knowledge of mortgage regulations, investor guidelines, and risk management practices. The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for ensuring every mortgage loan meets the highest accuracy, completeness, and credit standards before delivery to the capital markets loan buyer. This critical role focuses on creating error-free loan packages, ensuring all data points, documents, conditions, and calculations align with underwriting guidelines and withstand scrutiny from investors.
The ultimate objective is to deliver a robust, defensible loan file free of errors, except for credit-related scratches or dents, ensuring seamless approval by loan buyers.

Key Responsibilities:
Loan Preparation & Accuracy:

●      Review and validate all mortgage loan components, including borrower documentation, financial data, and property appraisals.

●      Ensure all data points and documents in the loan package are accurate, complete, and aligned with Automated Underwriting System (AUS) outputs.

●      Conduct thorough calculations and validations to ensure the integrity and reliability of the loan package.

Investor-Ready Documentation:

●      Prepare mortgage loan packages with the highest level of accuracy to meet capital market buyer requirements.

●      Anticipate and address potential discrepancies to avoid investor objections or rejections.

●      Ensure loan conditions are met and documentation is robust enough to withstand scrutiny from investors or fault-finding reviewers.

Credit & Risk Mitigation:

●      Identify and resolve credit issues to minimize risks, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.

●      Deliver loans without errors, apart from permissible compliance deviations, ensuring investor trust and confidence.

●      Maintain meticulous documentation for each underwriting decision, creating a transparent audit trail.

Collaboration & Communication:

●      Work closely with expeditors, loan officers, and other stakeholders to gather missing documents and resolve inconsistencies.

●      Communicate underwriting requirements and conditions clearly to ensure all parties are aligned on expectations.

Quality Assurance & Process Improvement:

●      Conduct quality checks on completed loan packages to maintain a 100% error-free standard.

●      Stay updated on industry guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory changes to uphold best practices.

●      Recommend and implement improvements to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.



Requirements

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years meaningful experience with mortgage loan underwriting for US consumers

  • Superb communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency, speed and accuracy in written communication.

  • Fluency, clarity and good diction in English

  • Great analytical, organizational skills & time management abilities

  • Proficiency in using MS Excel/Google Sheets

  • Experience in using customer information tools (e.g. Retool), task management tools, Google Drive.

  • Detail Oriented - we’re a financial services company so being correct about the details matter

  • Bachelor's Degree - in marketing, finance, economics, or related fields.

  • Flexibility to work US Pacific time 10 AM to 7 PM (with a 1 hour break time in between)

  • Candidates must be residing in the Philippines
