Job Purpose:
The Unit Head – Liabilities is responsible for developing, managing and growing the bank’s business banking liabilities portfolio, focusing on current accounts, savings accounts, term deposits, escrow accounts and transaction banking solutions for small and medium business clients.
The role ensures strong portfolio growth, deposit mobilisation, cross-sell of transaction services and enhancement of customer experience while maintaining full compliance with regulatory and risk management standards. The position plays a vital role in contributing to the bank’s liquidity, funding base and profitability targets within the business banking segment.
Principal Accountabilities:
Liabilities Portfolio Management
Lead the growth and management of the liabilities portfolio across business banking clients, including current accounts, call deposits, savings accounts, fixed deposits, escrow accounts and cash management solutions.
Develop and implement strategies to increase deposit volumes, optimise cost of funds and enhance the liability mix.
Identify and pursue opportunities for wallet share deepening and cross-sell of transaction banking services (e.g., cash management, collections, payments solutions).
Client Acquisition & Relationship Management
Support Relationship Managers (RMs) in acquiring new-to-bank business clients with strong liability potential.
Develop tailored solutions and bundled offerings to attract and retain high-value liability clients.
Work closely with frontline teams to ensure customer needs are fully understood and proactive solutions are offered.
Product and Proposition Development
Collaborate with Product and Marketing teams to design competitive business banking deposit products, pricing strategies and bundled propositions.
Identify market gaps and lead the enhancement of account offerings, transaction banking capabilities and value-added services for business customers.
Sales and Performance Management
Set and manage portfolio growth targets, deposit mobilisation KPIs, and cross-sell objectives for business banking RMs.
Conduct regular portfolio performance reviews, providing actionable insights and guidance to frontline teams.
Support sales campaigns, client engagement programmes and market penetration initiatives.
Risk Management and Compliance
Ensure adherence to CBUAE regulations, AML/CFT guidelines and internal compliance standards in all liability account opening, maintenance and transaction activities.
Implement and monitor strong operational controls related to account management, KYC, transaction monitoring and fraud prevention.
Reporting and Insights
Provide regular reporting to the Head of Business Banking Coverage and senior management on portfolio performance, deposit mobilisation progress, client acquisition trends and risk indicators.
Leverage analytics to identify opportunities for enhancing portfolio profitability, client engagement and product penetration.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
Collaborate closely with Risk, Compliance, Legal, Treasury, Operations and Product teams to deliver seamless service and risk-controlled liability solutions.
Actively participate in business forums, strategic projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing business banking services and deposit base growth
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
8–10 years of experience in business banking, corporate liabilities management, or transaction banking, preferably within the UAE or GCC.
Proven track record in deposit mobilisation, relationship management and portfolio growth.
Strong knowledge of CBUAE regulations, KYC/AML requirements and cash management solutions.
