Job description

Scion Nonprofit Staffing is thrilled to present an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on nonprofit Controller for a rapidly growing $30M+ organization. This hybrid opportunity is required onsite Monday through Thursday in Los Angeles (ZIP code 90048) and remote on Fridays. Founded in 1992, this highly regarded national nonprofit provides programs supporting more than 150,000 children in 728 schools and community sites across the United States. THE ROLE: Were seeking a results driven and detail oriented nonprofit financial leader, preferably with a CPA and extensive nonprofit accounting and audit experience with $30M+ budgets. The ideal candidate has a proven track record managing a diverse revenue portfolio, including both public and private funding, and brings deep expertise in federal grants and leading A-133 single audits. Reporting directly to the CFO the Controller will manage a lean finance team.

Responsibilities

Finance Leadership:

  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Analyze financial data to optimize reporting and efficiency across the organization.
  • Develop and enforce financial controls and strategic growth plans.
  • Guide financial decisions by aligning company policies with current economic trends.
  • Utilize Financial Edge to enhance and troubleshoot financial operations.
  • Strengthen financial integration between Financial Edge and Raisers Edge to improve revenue tracking.

Accounting & Compliance:

  • Oversee multi-state grants and compliance.
  • Identify and manage fiscal risks while streamlining accounting processes.
  • Lead the annual audit process, ensuring strict adherence to A-133 single audit requirements.
  • Maintain rigorous internal controls and fiscal policies.

Grant Oversight & Financial Strategy:

  • Build strong relationships between national and regional teams.
  • Ensure compliance and accuracy in grant financial records and reporting.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to improve grant management processes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA certification and a Bachelors/masters in accounting, Finance, or related field (highly preferred).
  • 7+ years of nonprofit accounting experience responsible for managing finance teams in nonprofit, philanthropic or academic institutions.
  • Hands on experience and superb understanding of nonprofit accounting, revenue recognition, cost allocations, single audit (A-133) requirements.
  • In depth understanding and hands on experience with the financial management and reporting of federal and foundation grants, contracts and multi-funded projects.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a collaborative spirit.
  • Outstanding communicator; excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $150,000 - $165,000 DOE
