Job Description And Duties

Under the supervision of the Supervising Workers' Compensation Consultant (SWCC), and receiving general direction from the Workers’ Compensation Manager, the Office Technician (Typing) will learn and perform a wide range of difficult clerical duties related to the administration of the Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) program following the established procedures of the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) Medical Unit. The OT(T)is responsible for timely processing of incoming and outgoing mail and other correspondence, accurate evaluation and entry of QME panel requests in accordance with applicable Labor Codes and regulations, and effective communication and customer service in interactions with coworkers and the public.

The OT(T) works in a smoke-free DWC Office under LED lighting, controlled temperature, quiet to moderate noise levels; equipped with cubicles computer, and other office equipment. Ability to retrieve and transport legacy box files in a safe manner.

Once formal training has concluded, part-time telework may be offered upon approval by the Medical Unit Manager and consistent with the Department of Industrial Relations’ Telework Policy.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
