The Associate Web API Engineer role is part of the engineering team, contributing to the development
of externally facing RESTful integration APIs. These APIs serve as critical enablers for our partners and
customers, making sustainable solutions more accessible to homeowners nationwide. This role will
write clean, secure code and build the technical foundation for meaningful, real-world impact.
Essential Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist in designing, developing, and maintaining secure and scalable RESTful APIs for external integration use cases.Collaborate with senior engineers and product stakeholders to deliver features that meet business and partner requirements.Support the creation and maintenance of OpenAPI (Swagger) documentation to enable developer adoption.Apply best practices in API design, including versioning, error handling, and authentication for external consumption.Required Skills, Knowledge and AbilitiesFoundational knowledge of RESTful API principles and HTTP standards.Familiarity with at least one backend programming language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or C#).Basic proficiency with version control systems like Git.Strong interest in building backend systems that are secure, maintainable, and externally consumable.
Preferred
Hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript for backend development.Exposure to OpenAPI / Swagger and API-first design approaches.Understanding of authentication protocols such as OAuth2 and JWT.Experience with Kong API Gateway.Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g., Postman) and cloud-based deployment pipelines.Knowledge of external developer experience considerations (e.g., API usability, error messaging, onboarding).Additional Information Regarding Job Duties and Job Descriptions:
