JOB TITLE: Network Engineer

Summary: An MSP IT services provider is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to support businesses in industries such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and professional services. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and high-performing network infrastructures for clients in fully managed and co-managed IT environments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, a proactive mindset, and a client-focused approach to solving complex networking challenges.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Client Support & Project Delivery
    • Design, deploy, and manage network infrastructures including LAN/WAN, VPNs, wireless networks, and firewalls.
    • Serve as Tier 2/3 escalation for network-related incidents, changes, and project implementations.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and client IT departments in co-managed service environments.
  • Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting
    • Monitor network health and performance using tools such as PRTG, SolarWinds, or similar.
    • Troubleshoot issues across on-premises and cloud infrastructures (e.g., Azure).
    • Ensure high availability and responsiveness of critical network systems.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Apply security best practices in all network designs and implementations.
    • Support compliance initiatives (e.g., HIPAA, ITAR) by maintaining secure and auditable network environments.
    • Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Automation & Cloud Integration
    • Use scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible) to improve consistency and efficiency.
    • Work with cloud-native networking tools including Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and Azure Networking components.
  • Documentation & Communication
    • Maintain comprehensive network diagrams, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
    • Communicate technical solutions and recommendations clearly to clients and stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in a network engineering role, preferably in an MSP or IT services environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with networking equipment and technologies (Cisco, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, Meraki, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of routing and switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and subnetting.
  • Experience with firewall configuration, VPN setup, and network security protocols.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid network architectures.
  • Proficiency with monitoring and logging tools like PRTG, SolarWinds, Wireshark, etc.
  • Knowledge of scripting/automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a client-service mindset.
