Why Patients Need You
Oxbryta (voxelotor) was approved by the FDA in Dec 2019 for the treatment of sickle cell disease in adults and children 12 years and older and received an expanded indication for four years and up in Dec 2021, providing patient access to over 90% of diagnosed
patients in the US. Both indications were approved under accelerated approval based on an increase in hemoglobin (Hb). Oxbryta is the first Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) drug approved under both the Breakthrough Therapy and Accelerated Approval designations by the FDA, and it is one of two Enterprise focus brands in the US Rare Disease portfolio. This commercialized product in Sickle Cell Disease is the foundational asset for the $5B Pfizer acquisition of Global Blood Therapeutics in 3Q 2022, and is in the launch stage of its lifecycle.
There are ~100k SCD patients in the US but only ~25% are under the regular care of an HCP with ~75% only under acute reactive care often frequently cycling through emergency rooms. Sickle Cell Disease can be a life-threatening condition but many patients fall out of care during the transition from pediatrics to adult care. Health system strategies include working to improve the transition from pediatrics to adults as well as working on solutions to ensure patients being discharged from health systems are set up with a hematologist to shift to more proactive care. This is imperative not only to be the catalyst for the appropriate care of patients with sickle cell disease, which leads to a shortened lifespan for those afflicted, but also to reshape the market prior to the introduction of the two pipeline medicines that are currently in late-stage clinical trials.
The Sickle Cell Disease Regional Marketing Director works with Regional Key Account Director teams, across a broad, multi-disciplinary group of stakeholders to provide customer insights and patient/account driven solutions that create opportunities for Sickle Cell Disease within Health Systems (i.e., National Accounts, COE’s, Medical Groups), and third-party affiliates.
