Summary

To serve the members of Samaritan Ministries (SMI) by providing excellent management and oversight of the financial activities of the ministry as agreed to by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Ministry Cabinet (MC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the key financial management activities of the entire ministry.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of the functions within accounting.
  • Assist the CFO in the creation of financial controls and metrics within the ministry in regard to both the administrative practices and the member-to-member sharing practices.
  • Ensure management goals and objectives of the Accounting department are being met by: creating financial status reports for senior management and as needed; accountable for the preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies; directing the determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets; providing critical analysis and recommendations to cost containment of administrative expenses; responsible for continual improvement of cost accounting of the ministry use of resources to enhance improved decision making.
  • Direct and manage the preparation of financial plans (both Operational and by Department)
  • Recommend or assist in establishing financial objectives for each department
  • Assist the CFO in ensuring the compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for arranging the annual independent audit of all SMI accounts.
  • Responsible for the completion and filing of the 990 tax return either internally or using outside expertise.
  • Assist CFO in protecting the ministry against operating risks through risk assessment, evaluation of controls both physical and electronic, and procurement of external insurance products.
  • Provide ministry with up to date knowledge of current trends and best practices in the accounting profession and not-for-profit sector.
  • Oversee the Treasury functions of the ministry by: ensuring sufficient cash balances are in the proper financial institutions to meet the ministry’s need; assisting in the research and recommendation of investment strategies and instruments that fall within the approved board investment policy.
  • Provide strategic leadership and support to Manager of Accounting & Program Financial Reporting Manager.


Qualifications And Experience

  • Four-year degree in Accounting and/or Finance from an accredited university.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Highly Recommended
  • Passion, humility, integrity, self-directed and a commitment to the mission of SMI
  • Thorough understanding of finance and audit processes (Advanced)
  • Experience in strategic development, financial planning, business analysis, information systems, and marketing.
  • Ability to connect staff at an individual level and in large groups
  • Proven experience in budget management (Advanced)
  • Good English and communication skills
  • Good people skills (Intermediate)
  • Ability to think strategically and anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into an organizational plan
  • Maintains confidentiality (Advanced)


Additional Information

  • Tasks are normally conducted in a regular office environment, requiring use of computer and mouse and other standard office equipment. Staff usually remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Staff will observe safety principles while performing the duties of the position.
  • Staff may be required to travel and have a valid driver's license.
  • Must regularly lift and move up to 35 lbs., and on occasion 50 lbs. with assistance.

Pay Range: $111,500-176,100. Starting pay usually falls within the lower half of the pay range and is determined by experience, skills, and education.
