Job description

About the team
The Zillow Group Legal and Compliance Department is a dedicated team of skilled (and fun!) legal professionals who enjoy working in a collegial environment within an innovative tech, real estate, and media company. This role is part of the Business Lines Legal Team, which provides the frontline support for Zillow’s products and services.

About the role

We are looking for an outstanding attorney to provide legal support to our Premier Agent Flex business. While serving as the legal point-of-contact for the business line that manages our Flex agent partner network, this attorney will be responsible for handling a broad range of legal matters, with a focus on real estate regulatory and licensing expertise, product development, data licensing, marketing and claim substantiation, trust & safety protocols, and customer support escalations.

Supporting Premier Agent Flex requires a rock solid understanding of the legal landscape that tech forward real estate brokerages, teams, and agents navigate on a daily basis. And just as important will be this attorney’s ability to identify, engage, and collaborate with other stakeholders within Legal and Compliance and other shared services. Like any attorney on the Business Lines Legal Team, this attorney will be expected to learn new areas of law while also understanding when to leverage subject matter experts. Above all, this attorney should have demonstrated expertise in supporting real estate brokerage activities and product development, offering creative solutions to complex problems, and excelling at building strong relationships with both clients and colleagues.

In this role, you will get to:
  • Serve as the legal point of contact and subject matter expert for Premier Agent Flex. Supporting Flex and our Flex agent partner network includes all aspects of our referral based business and the product development that comes with it, including product design and copy, marketing collateral, vendor / partner contracts, customer service scripts / escalations, data use & privacy implications, and disclosures and terms of use

  • Embed yourself with business partners and provide tactical and pragmatic legal counsel for issues of first impression, pilot programs, and other key initiatives

  • Proactively partner with cross-functional business teams and shared services (e.g., privacy, fair housing, finance, compliance, risk, real estate licensing, communications, and marketing) to identify and resolve novel legal matters that arise

  • Analyze proposed and enacted legislative changes that impact our Flex business and work with government relations and product teams to develop and execute implementation plans

  • Draft, review, and negotiate brokerage referral fee agreements

  • Collaborate closely with other internal partners, including other business line attorneys, privacy, finance, tax, risk management and information security and compliance

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company.
