Job description

As a Senior Solutions Architect at Apollo, you’ll be one of the leaders helping major product teams go from proof-of-concept to production with a federated graph. You’ll join a talented team at the forefront of designing GraphQL-based distributed architectures while establishing and communicating industry best practices.

You’ll harness your APIs and Software Architecture knowledge to serve as a trusted technical advisor and advocate for our enterprise customers. You’ll develop creative solutions that accelerate customer adoption of GraphQL and federated graphs that create tangible business value. You’ll also play an important role in shaping Apollo's future by communicating customer feedback to the product and engineering teams.

If collaborating with a tight-knit team on some of the most interesting and innovative projects in the GraphQL space today sounds like fun to you, then we’d love to have you join our team as a Solutions Architect!

What you'll do
  • Partner with engineering teams across various companies to showcase the Apollo platform and guide them in consolidating GraphQL efforts into a unified, federated graph.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the enterprise journey, from proof of concept to production and company-wide expansion.
  • Understand each customer’s goals, architecture,  and roadmap to design tailored strategies for successful Apollo adoption.
  • Devise innovative solutions that accelerate federated graph rollout, surface new use cases, and unlock greater business value.
  • Share insights from the field to improve Apollo’s documentation, open source libraries, and platform features.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Apollo’s product and engineering teams to help shape solutions to the challenges some of the world’s most advanced engineering organizations face.

  • Who you are
  • You have 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering or architecture roles, including customer-facing or consultative experience.
  • You're passionate about teams of all sizes succeeding at more than they thought possible.
  • You value empathy and love talking with users and customers to solve their problems, which has made you a highly trusted and valued partner.
  • You have a solid technical foundation in GraphQL and enterprise data delivery. You’re comfortable writing code, reviewing architecture, and working peer-to-peer with engineers.
  • You have a track record of delivering timely results because you are organized and have follow-through.
  • You have a creative, “can do” attitude. You find creative ways around obstacles and do not rest until the customer is satisfied.
  • You’re passionate about mentoring and collaborating with others.

  • Technical Expertise
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating high-scale distributed systems, including hands-on implementation of backend GraphQL services. Experience with Apollo Federation or frontend GraphQL is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Java, or similar programming languages.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure technologies such as Kubernetes, Istio, and OpenTelemetry.

  • Architectural and Platform Thinking
  • Experience developing technical plans and documentation that enable customers to deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable architectures aligned with their business goals.
  • Deep understanding of API security, observability, and performance best practices in distributed systems.
  • Sound judgment in making architectural decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term sustainability.

  • Communication Skills
  • Strong customer-centric mindset with the ability to translate business objectives into scalable technical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify and clearly convey complex technical concepts.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence technical strategy across diverse teams.
