Job description

IT Security Specialist
Location: Remote

Salary: $120-160k
Sabot Consulting is seeking a highly skilled and experienced IT Security Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT security policy creation, particularly within the context of state and federal compliance frameworks. The IT Security Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing IT security policies and procedures to meet the requirements set by the Department of Justice.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive IT security policies and procedures in accordance with DOJ requirements and NIST 800-53, FIPS, and SIMM 5300 standards.
  • Review and document existing informal processes into official policies and procedures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures align with the client’s mission and infrastructure capabilities.
  • Identify and document business problems and opportunities for improvement related to IT security.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop risk management plans to address identified risks.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal IT security regulations and standards.
  • Work closely with BSCC IT Division and program personnel to gather information and document processes.
  • Conduct interviews with personnel to capture necessary information for policy development.
  • Attend weekly meetings with BSCC IT Division and program personnel to provide regular updates on assessment and policy development.
  • Develop and provide training materials and sessions to ensure staff understand and comply with new IT security policies and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of all IT security policies and procedures.
Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree (four years of experience can be substituted for a bachelor’s degree).
  • Experience interacting directly with State of California departmental teams, including both Information Technology and program staff.
  • Experience developing IT policies and procedures to meet the requirements of DOJ.
  • Experience documenting informal processes into official policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with NIST 800-53, FIPS, and SIMM 5300 standards.
  • Experience with risk assessment and risk management.
  • Proficiency in using IT security tools and software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
