The Role

The Director of Platform Engineering will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of our developer self-service platform, with a primary focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud migration initiatives. This role will drive the organization's platform strategy while taking leadership of our established Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE). The Main Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the Platform Engineering team, providing technical direction, mentorship, and career development
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive roadmap for our developer self-service platform
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align platform engineering initiatives with broader business objectives
  • Take leadership of the existing Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), evolving its capabilities to drive cloud adoption, governance, and best practices across the organization
  • Define and implement platform performance metrics and KPIs to measure success and drive continuous improvement 
  • Infrastructure as Code & Cloud 
  • Champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices across the organization, establishing standards and patterns for infrastructure automation 
  • Oversee the design and implementation of reusable IaC modules and templates to accelerate cloud adoption 
  • Refine and enhance reference architectures for various cloud deployment patterns 
  • Implement robust infrastructure testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure changes 

Platform Development 

  • Direct the development of self-service capabilities that enable engineering teams to provision, manage, and scale infrastructure autonomously 
  • Build abstraction layers that simplify complex cloud services while maintaining appropriate guardrails 
  • Develop secure-by-default platform capabilities that enforce organizational security policies 

Operational Excellence 

  • Establish operational standards for platform reliability, availability, and resilience 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and training materials for platform users 
  • Create and maintain service level objectives (SLOs) for platform services 
What We Look For in a Candidate

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps roles
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams and Proven track record of successfully implementing and scaling cloud platforms
  • Experience leading or participating in a Cloud Center of Excellence

Technical Skills

  • Expert knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi)
  • Deep understanding of major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their service offerings
  • Experience leading cloud governance frameworks and enhancing Cloud Centers of Excellence
  • Strong expertise in automation, CI/CD, and DevOps practices and proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet) and understanding of network architecture, security principles, and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with observability solutions (monitoring, logging, tracing)

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to various stakeholders
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to develop long-term technical roadmaps and excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in complex situations
  • Team-building expertise with a track record of developing high-performing engineering teams
  • Change management experience, particularly related to organizational cloud adoption
  • Business acumen with the ability to align technical initiatives with business outcomes and collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams
Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$149,084 - $198,779 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$156,539 - $208,718 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$163,993 - $218,657 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
