The Senior Director of Lab Development plays a pivotal role in driving the growth, optimization, and continuous improvement of laboratory services across Unified Women’s Healthcare markets. This leadership position is an opportunity to be part of an experienced team of laboratory professionals all with women’s health testing experience responsible for guiding the strategic development of new laboratories, as well as expanding the capabilities of existing labs to ensure they deliver high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered screening and diagnostic services.
The Senior Director will provide oversight and analytical expertise throughout the lab development lifecycle, ensuring all initiatives align with the organization’s mission to deliver exceptional healthcare to women. This individual will work closely with internal teams lead by a Fellowship-trained GYN (MD) Pathologist and external partners to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and the successful integration of lab services within the broader clinical and business framework.
Responsibilities
Analysis:
Develop and execute analysis fostering growth and optimization of laboratory services.
Ensure alignment of lab development initiatives with organizational goals and healthcare standards.
Operations:
Engage in the planning, design, and implementation of new and expanding laboratories, including infrastructure, equipment acquisition, staffing, and process development.
Oversee the project performance for new or expanding laboratories.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
Partner with leadership across markets to assess laboratory needs and establish tailored solutions.
Collaborate with clinical teams to integrate laboratory services seamlessly into patient care workflows.
Develop and maintain effective departmental communication through regular staff meetings and facilitate the flow of information from and to the department and Unified leadership.
Financial Management:
Participate in the development and management of budgets for lab development projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and resource optimization.
Analyze financial performance of new and expanded laboratory offerings, identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost reduction.
Team Leadership:
Build and lead a high-performing team of professionals.
Foster an environment of service excellence for patients, families, physicians, and community.
Mentor and develop team members, ensuring alignment with organizational values and goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in medical technology, chemical or biological science.
Minimum of 10+ years of laboratory experience to include at least 5+ years of laboratory leadership experience.
Previous experience in design and implementation of new laboratories, required.
Proficient in project management and lean workflow methodologies, preferred.
The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities/projects.
Strong customer orientation and ability to foster long term customer relationships.
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication and presentation skills.
Candidate must have experience with cytology, histology, and/or molecular microbiology preferably in Women’s Health.
