Job description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-driven IT Partner Experience Intern to join our team, with a focused role in supporting our Onboarding and Commissions teams.

This internship offers the unique opportunity to work on initiatives that directly impact how our partners are onboarded, appointed, and managed across all U.S. jurisdictions.

As part of the Partner Experience Systems team, you will contribute to the development and validation of test cases that reflect the diverse regulatory requirements across states. You’ll gain exposure to the systems, data models, and agile processes that power the financial professional journey from appointment to activation, as well as systems processes and teams that are responsible for payment of commissions.

The Software Engineering Intern solves business needs by building quality software with guidance from senior engineering team members. Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2025 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks, running from June 16 – September 5.

Potential projects, responsibilities, & opportunities: 

  • Support the development of comprehensive test cases to validate financial professional appointment workflows and commissions across all U.S. states and territories
  • Research and document regulatory differences in appointment rules, licensing requirements, and exceptions by jurisdiction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, compliance, legal, and engineering to ensure model accuracy
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and system demos) alongside product and technical teams
  • Assist in documenting appointment and commission related business logic and system behaviors in tools like Confluence and Jira
  • Help identify gaps, edge cases, and improvement opportunities in current appointment handling processes



Your Education, Experience, And Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Public Policy, or a related field
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize regulatory content into clear business scenarios
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning complex rules and exceptions
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, documentation tools (Confluence), and agile boards (Jira)
  • Interest in partner ecosystems, compliance, or the financial services industry is a plus
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset
