We are seeking a Software Engineer II to build and enhance core components of our product suite, delivering scalable, user-focused solutions within a collaborative Agile environment.

About the Role

As the Software Engineer II, you will play a key role in developing our core products. You will collaborate with a team of skilled engineers, they will help  design, build, and deliver essential components of our product suite that bring direct value to our customers and high scalability and efficiency for internal operational teams. This position is part of an Agile Scrum team and will perform work in accordance with the Sprint schedule and cadence.

 

Key Focus Areas

The Intermediate Software Engineer will be responsible for the following: 

  • Design, develop, and maintain core components of Honorlock’s product suite, with a focus on building solutions that uphold academic integrity while minimizing disruption to the student experience
  • Collaborate with other engineers to architect scalable and efficient software solutions, balancing new feature development and ongoing maintenance, to deliver direct value to our customers and improve operational effectiveness
  • Participate in all phases of the web development stack 
  • Work within an Agile Scrum team, adhering to sprint schedules and development cadences
  • Contribute to writing APIs and associated documentation
  • Engage in software feature testing and unit testing to ensure quality and reliability
  • Continuously learn and take on new technical challenges by participating in team "show and tell" sessions, retros after each sprint, and collaborative pairing using tools like Tuple
  • Actively engage in team collaboration and knowledge sharing to improve engineering practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Focus on improving product functionality and user experience
  • Operate as an individual contributor with a high degree of autonomy

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working on all levels of the web stack (JavaScript, HTML/CSS, PHP/Laravel backend, MySQL)
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • 1+ years of recent, continuous experience with Laravel development
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and take on new challenges that will push your abilities.
  • Passionate about product development and user experience
  • Experience writing APIs and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills with a desire to work in an open and team-oriented environment
  • Experience with software feature testing and unit testing
