Position Overview:

As a key member within the Global Medical Affairs team, the Director of US Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) will develop, implement, and manage HEOR strategic plans to optimize the value proposition of Prothena’s products through each stage of development and lifecycle.   

Responsibilities:

  • Develop HEOR strategic plans to support the value proposition of current and future indications across Prothena’s product portfolio, with a focus on late-stage assets
  • Ability to effectively lead research activities including cost-effectiveness analyses, budget impact modeling, retrospective database/chart analyses, systematic literature reviews, registry design, and patient-reported outcomes research
  • Effectively identify and lead external research partners, ensuring projects are scientifically rigorous, medically relevant, and address business needs, as well as the needs of patients, health care providers, and payers
  • Maintain knowledge and remain current on the US reimbursement landscape and the evidentiary needs of health care decision-makers to guide HEOR strategies
  • Draft and critically review publications, ensuring scientific data resulting from the HEOR studies are appropriately positioned in the public domain
  • Communicate and translate HEOR evidence effectively in manuscripts, congress presentations, AMCP dossiers, and appropriate communication tools for payers
  • Work with cross-functional team members in a close and collaborative manner, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial
  • Provide HEOR technical and methodological support to cross-functional teams to effectively use clinical, economic, and humanistic data to enhance value propositions, product reimbursement, and formulary access
  • Collaborate closely with Market Access to support broader value and pricing strategies
  • Provide HEOR support and expertise at advisory boards, educational programs, conferences and other external meetings
  • Represent HEOR on cross-functional internal teams
  • Adhere to all applicable pharmaceutical codes, Office of Inspector General (OIG), and Prothena SOPs

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, MD, Ph.D.) with a minimum of 8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and/or managed care experience, with at least 5+ years of experience in health economics and outcomes research
  • Experience with Rare Disease/Oncology preferred. Experience in Neuroscience a plus
  • Experience with product launch required
  • Experience with patient-reported outcomes preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of US healthcare systems and reimbursement processes/decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic HEOR plans, manage research vendors, and execute studies
  • Strong technical skills to independently conduct rigorous and medically relevant HEOR studies
  • Proficient in project management and forecasting and negotiating project budgets
  • Expertise in research and a track record of publications is preferred
  • Up to 25% travel required

Compensation Overview:

The anticipated annual salary range for this role is $200,000 to $270,000.  This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.  The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include – but are not limited to – the final job level offered, the type and length of experience within the job and industry, relevant education, qualifications, skills, certifications, performance, and business or organizational needs.

The hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and an equity grant in the form of stock options.

  • Prothena employees are also eligible to enroll in our Company’s 401(k) plan and are always 100% vested in their account balances.  The 401(k) plan provides for a quarterly, non-discretionary, 3% company-paid contribution on eligible earnings, as well as an additional, annual discretionary Company match of up to 2% of eligible earnings.  
  • New Prothena employees are also eligible for 17 days of paid vacation accrued over the course of the first year of employment, paid sick time in accordance with state law, and company-paid holidays – which includes a Company-wide shutdown at the winter holidays.
