SOHO Router Simulation Project Overview
We are seeking a skilled game developer to create an interactive simulation focused on configuring a Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) wireless router. This simulation is intended for students preparing for the CompTIA A+ certification exam, providing hands-on experience in setting up and securing a wireless network. The goal is to reinforce core networking concepts through a realistic, practice-based learning environment. The intent of this project is to test the waters on market demand for these types of offerings. If we receive positive feedback from students and enough order volume our intent would be to scale this into a much larger initiative to create simulations for multiple CompTIA certification exams.
Objectives
Develop an interactive simulation that guides students through the process of
configuring a SOHO wireless router.
Ensure alignment with CompTIA A+ 220-1201 exam objectives related to networking.
Provide an engaging, scenario-based learning experience with real-world
problem-solving.
Include feedback and scoring mechanisms to help students identify strengths and weaknesses.
Offer multiple difficulty levels, including a guided mode for learning and an exam mode for assessment.
Key Features & Requirements
Scenario-Based Configuration Tasks
Present students with realistic SOHO router setup tasks, including:
1. Configure a SOHO Router
Set up SSIDs, passwords, and basic network security settings
Create guest network
Create 2.4GHz network and 5GHz networks
Setup DHCP per configuration
Changing default SSID and password
Configuring WPA2/WPA3 security settings
Adjusting wireless channels to minimize interference
Implementing Quality of Service (QoS) settings
2. Configure a SOHO Firewall
Open ports
Block ports
Forward ports to a given IP/server
Configure port forwarding and firewall rules
3. Additional Configuration Tasks
Setup VPN/PPTP/L2TP/etc.
Setup WAN connection (Dynamic or static IP)
Configure DHCP scope in the device to hand out IPs
MAC filtering (enable/disable)
Diagnostic and Configuration Tools
Include virtual interfaces for:
Router web-based GUI and command-line interface (CLI)
Wi-Fi analyzer for signal strength and interference detection
Network status and connectivity test tools
Additional Features
Drag-and-Drop Configuration: Allow users to modify router settings, apply security measures, and troubleshoot connectivity issues interactively.
Error Handling & Feedback: Provide explanations and guided hints for incorrect
configurations in learning mode.
Scoring & Performance Analytics: Offer detailed reports on user performance,
highlighting areas for improvement.
Cross-Platform Compatibility: Develop for web-based and desktop (Windows/macOS) usage, with potential mobile support.
Expandable Content: Enable future updates to add new router models, security
protocols, and networking challenges.
Deliverables
Fully functional SOHO router configuration simulation
Documentation for installation, usage, and future updates
