The Role

Lumen has an immediate need for an experienced in-house employment attorney interested in joining a collegial team of lawyers providing advice and counsel to human resources and business leaders related to employees, employment policies, and compliance with local, state and federal employment laws.  The successful candidate will manage a paralegal and compliance analyst.

Location

This role, has been designated as fully remote, US.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel to the corporation, assess and effectively manage legal risk, taking into consideration the business, its objectives, and risk tolerance;
  • Provide legal advice, strategic direction, and potential solutions on employment issues to human resources and business leaders;
  • Collaborate with business decision makers; build strong relationships with clients as a trusted advisor
  • Independently manage complex and critical employment related issues such as Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, USERRA and all federal, state and local employment laws;
  • Respond to demands, wage claims, and discrimination charges.
  • Supervise outside counsel handling employment litigation.
  • Accountable for direction, management, support of and performance of direct reports.

The attorney will directly advise internal stakeholders on employment-based immigration matters, including non-immigrant visas (NIV) and permanent residency (IV), while also driving high-volume, business-critical programs and providing indirect oversight to immigration specialists.

Required

  • Sound business and legal judgment;
  • Ability to act independently while staying aligned with management and company goals and objectives.
  • JD degree from an accredited law school;
  • Licensed to practice law in the state where the attorney is officed;
  • 12+ years of legal practice, with an emphasis on employment law;
  • In house experience in employment law, including advising on all state and federal employment laws, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, USERRA, state or local required affirmative action.
  • Experience managing a team.
Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

 

Location Based Pay Ranges:

 

$171,447 - $228,596 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$180,020 - $240,026 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$188,592 - $251,456 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
