Job description

Newsela is seeking to hire a Contractor based out of Latin America (Argentina or Mexico) for Mid-Level UI Design Services. We’re looking for a Mid-Level UI Designer who’s passionate about crafting intuitive, visually compelling user interfaces that come to life through thoughtful interactions and motion. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and fellow designers to bring our platform to life, balancing clarity and delight in every screen. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of visual design, interaction design, and motion, with a strong grasp of front-end implementation needs.

 Scope of Services

  • Design polished, accessible interfaces across desktop and mobile experiences
  • Develop interaction patterns and motion behaviors that enhance usability and brand cohesion
  • Collaborate with UX designers, engineers, and product leads from concept through implementation
  • Translate design decisions into clear specs and interactive prototypes
  • Evolve and contribute to our design system in partnership with the broader team
  • Advocate for the user and help maintain a high design quality bar

Skills / Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in UI/interaction design for digital products
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product work, with an emphasis on interface design, interactivity, and motion
  • Proficiency in tools like Figma, Rive, After Effects, Principle, or other prototyping/motion tools
  • Solid understanding of front-end implementation considerations (HTML/CSS, component libraries, responsive design)
  • Ability to give and receive constructive critique and iterate quickly
  • Experience in education technology or designing for learners and educators preferred
  • Familiarity with agile product development cycles preferred 
  • Comfort working within evolving design systems preferred
  • Experience designing for accessibility (WCAG, etc.) preferred
