What you will be doing in the role of a Sr. Manager - Foundations & Grants

The Sr. Manager, Foundations & Grants serves as a key member of the National Major Gift and Planned Giving fundraising team for Susan G. Komen. This position will be responsible for the cultivation, stewardship, and growth of a comprehensive portfolio of foundation partners, focusing on identifying new funding opportunities, retaining and growing existing relationships, and securing significant grant revenue to support Komen’s mission. You will manage the full grant lifecycle, including research, proposal development, submission, and reporting, while collaborating with internal teams to align funding priorities and demonstrate programmatic impact. Additionally, you will cultivate relationships with foundation program officers and stakeholders, providing an authentic and meaningful experience that fosters long-term partnerships. This position will report to the Vice President, Major Gifts & Planned Giving and will work closely with program, finance, and leadership teams. This is a fully remote position.

What you will bring to the table 

  • Serve as the relationship manager for a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects, cultivating high-value partnerships.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Major Gifts & Planned Giving to support and expand an existing portfolio of institutional funders through prospect research.
  • Build and sustain meaningful, long-term relationships with foundations by facilitating consistent, impactful communication and stewardship.
  • Assist in including funders at Komen engagement events and look for opportunities to deepen relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Collaborate with staff in markets and assist as needed on an opportunity team for foundations in their portfolios.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to research, apply for, track, secure, and fulfill foundation and institutional fundraising grants.
  • Serve as the lead on foundation grant proposals, preparing and submitting high-quality applications, letters of inquiry, and reports that align with funder priorities.
  • Research and advise on strategies to motivate significant gifts that align with funding opportunities to support Komen’s mission and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements, tracking objectives, deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
  • Monitor trends and opportunities in the philanthropic landscape to position Komen’s unique value proposition effectively.
  • Resident expert in grants and thought partner for staff on opportunities in other portfolios. Assist as needed to Komen is optimizing every opportunity.
  • Collaborate with the Development, Mission, Operations, and Finance teams to track revenue, support accurate budgeting, and ensure alignment with grant requirements.
  • Partner with internal teams to provide timely and accurate financial reporting for funders, ensuring accountability and transparency.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the department’s annual fundraising strategy and goals.
  • Collaborate on the creation and refinement of departmental policies, procedures, and workflows to streamline fundraising operations.
  • Maintain accurate donor and grant records in Salesforce and other systems, ensuring efficient tracking and reporting.

We know you will have and be able to

  • Bachelor’s degree required and 5+ years of progressive experience specifically in foundation relations, grant writing, major gifts, or institutional fundraising. Experience in a national organization ($50M+ annual budget) preferred.
  • Proven success in securing 6 and 7figure foundation gifts and managing a portfolio of private and family foundations.
  • Proficiency with donor databases, preferably Salesforce.
  • Strong technical skills with expertise in Outlook, Word, Excel, and Microsoft Teams. 
  • Experience with Asana, Gravyty, FreeWill, or other platforms is a plus, with the ability to train and coach others.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and detail-orientation skills to manage donor caseloads and maintain accurate relationship documentation.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate information from relevant sources to inform decision-making.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated expertise in crafting compelling proposals and reports.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, including relationship-building and communication with diverse groups of people in-person, on video, over the phone, and via email, with tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Intrinsically motivated, able to work autonomously in a remote environment.
  • Outcome-driven with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to engage, influence, and inspire funders and stakeholders.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

  • Approximate salary of $74,000 - 100,000; exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location.
