As a FinOps Specialist, you will have the opportunity to engage with various Atlas Technica clients to help transform how they purchase, manage, and optimize IT services. You will engage with IT Operations, Cloud Engineering, DevOps and Finance teams to implement budgeting and cost tracking best practices. That will include generating and providing recommendations on how clients can optimize their usage of cloud services such as Azure and AWS, SaaS services such as Microsoft 365, working to establish proper processes, implementing required tools, and collaborating with external vendors to ensure ongoing success.
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for financial operations (FinOps), helping to drive cloud cost optimization strategies.
- Educate Atlas Technica clients on FinOps principles and best practices for cloud cost optimization to manage their IT spending successfully.
- Collaborate with engineering, finance, and business teams to ensure the long-term success of adopting cloud services.
- Develop and implement cost management strategies, including rightsizing, optimizing storage solutions, and looking for efficiencies in managed services.
- Work with internal and external teams to ensure financial compliance, particularly regarding cloud infrastructure usage.
- Develop tools and processes for tracking, reporting, and optimizing cloud infrastructure costs, ensuring all operational tasks are automated for maximum efficiency and scalability.
- Guide the creation of cloud cost forecasting models to enable proactive planning and budgeting.
- Analyze cloud usage and spending in client environments to identify optimization opportunities.
- Establish cloud cost allocation and chargeback mechanisms to drive accountability and transparency.
- Communicate, establish, and measure KPIs to track the progress and success of implementing FinOps processes.
- Assess the reporting and analytic needs of Atlas Technica clients and identify approaches and solutions to manage numerous requests concurrently and strategically.
- Understand and communicate billing, forecasting, and budgeting best practices for cloud services.
- Provide Atlas Technica clients with cost-related insights, metrics, and KPIs.
- Stay up to date with the latest cloud technologies and cost management tools to ensure best practices are followed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in cloud financial management
- Solid understanding of cloud billing and optimization, preferably with major cloud providers such as Azure and AWS.
- Proficiency in cloud cost management tools and services (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, etc.).
- Excellent communication and customer-relationship skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud cost optimization, FinOps, or a similar role
- Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns and their cost implications
- Have a deep understanding of large-scale systems and their financial impacts, including cost-benefit analysis.
- Experienced at working with large data sets, familiar with managing cloud services within large organizations and working directly with company clients.
- Certification in Cloud Financial Management (e.g., FinOps Certified Practitioner)
