Community Service Worker, Vision Mates

Temporary (Canada Summer Jobs)

London, ON (Home-Based)

Compensation: $17.20/hr.

Reports to: Vision Mate Coordinator - Ontario West

We're looking for a mission-driven Community Service Worker, Vision Mates who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

Your Impact at CNIB

Assists with coordination to onboard volunteers.

  • Maintains and manages a database/tracking system of volunteer activity. 
  • Provides support to participants and volunteers on a regular basis.
  • Assesses participants’ eligibility for Home-Based Support Programs
  • Participates as a fully integrated member of the Ontario West Foundation team with occasional travel within the London area.
  • Communicates in a professional manner, both in writing and verbally, on both internal and external levels as required
  • Liaises with volunteers, participants, and staff
  • Works both independently and collaboratively with various departments

Education and Certifications

  • Degree or diploma in related field, or equivalent work experience.


Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge and skills in the volunteer management and social services an asset.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to travel independently within the London area via public transit or car or rideshare taxi, Uber etc.)
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
