Job description

Ritchie Bros. is transforming the way the world buys and sells heavy equipment, trucks, and other industrial assets. As a global leader in asset disposition and marketplace technology, we are driving innovation through digital platforms like rbauction.com, building exceptional buyer and seller experiences that increase trust, transparency, and choice.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Product Manager to lead our Search & Discovery experience at Ritchie Bros. This is a high-impact role focused on transforming how users find and engage with equipment in our marketplace. You’ll take ownership of the search experience across web and mobile platforms, shaping the taxonomy, relevance algorithms, and content strategy to help customers find what they need faster and more intuitively. This role is central to our upper-funnel experience and will directly influence key growth metrics like user acquisition, retention, and engagement.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own the Search & Discovery product experience on rbauction.com, including taxonomy, search algorithms, filters, and ranking logic.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, UX, and analytics to deliver high-performing, relevant search results that improve discovery and user satisfaction.

  • Define and drive the roadmap for SEO and taxonomy improvements, ensuring alignment with both business goals and technical feasibility.

  • Leverage programmatic SEO strategies to improve organic traffic and search rankings across a wide range of product categories.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs tied to user behavior and search performance; make data-driven prioritization decisions.

  • Partner with marketing and content teams to integrate advertising and promotional content seamlessly into the search experience.

  • Act as the voice of the customer—translate user insights and stakeholder feedback into clear product requirements.

  • Help define and evolve the product vision for upper-funnel discovery as part of a broader cross-functional initiative.

What You Bring:

  • 4+ years of product management experience, ideally in marketplace, ecommerce, or B2B/B2C hybrid environments.

  • Strong familiarity with search technologies, SEO best practices, and taxonomy design.

  • Proven ability to work with engineering teams on web-based platforms, especially with API-driven or re-platformed systems.

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, leading projects from discovery through delivery.

  • Analytical mindset and experience with search and engagement-related KPIs; can identify upstream levers to drive conversion.

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to synthesize technical details and present to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and shaping structure where there is little precedent.

Nice to Have:

  • Marketplace or auction-based product experience (especially in a search/discovery context).

  • Exposure to programmatic SEO at scale.

  • Familiarity with advertising and marketing content integration in product interfaces.

  • Experience working on products that underwent re-platforming or modernization (e.g., monolith to microservices).

  • Past ownership of global search features (e.g., faceted search, filters, ranking logic).

Why You’ll Love It Here:

  • High-impact role at the center of a major digital transformation

  • A chance to shape the future of a global, multi-billion-dollar marketplace

  • Work with experienced product leaders and passionate cross-functional teams

  • Flexible work environment and competitive benefits
