Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Computer and Storage, in this position you will be the subject matter expert in Enterprise storage systems and will be responsible for leading projects in the development, implementation, and execution of information technology, and will be responsible for a complex specialized area within IT. This position is complementary to the Server Operations, Unix Operations, and Storage Operations Teams. Communication with stakeholders and co-workers will be essential in ensuring that project deliverables meet client expectations. In this position you will utilize your diverse IT expertise to operate independently on assigned work or provide guidance to others.

You will also be responsible for a variety of tasks including:

  • Providing consultation and support to Ministry clients relating to strategic, operational, and/or budget planning for information technology projects/supports.
  • Leading or functioning as the senior resource within a team environment, to provide for the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of existing and new information technology applications within the Ministry.
  • Providing leadership to and participating in the development, design, construction, testing and implementation of a wide range of information technology applications.
  • Providing technical support for information technology applications. 


As a successful candidate, you will lead in the development, implementation, administration, and support of the Government of Alberta (“GOA”) File Services Environment. You will also work independently on both operational and project related activities in consultation with the Storage Team Lead, Server Team Lead, and Unix Team Lead. This position requires a high level of experience with the administration and management of Networked Storage, File Services, Server Virtualization, Backup and Recovery services, as well as Replication services.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University Degree in a related field, such as computer science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of extensive work experience with: 
    • Netapp storage solutions.
    • NAS technologies.
    • Storage replication technologies.
    • Architecting, planning, and maintaining File Sharing solutions.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an enhanced or where necessary a top-secret security clearance.


Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized post secondary institution and six years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post secondary institution and seven years related experience.


Assets:

  • Experience with Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS).
  • Experience with Cloud file services and Cloud storage technologies.
  • Experience with VMware using Dell Block Storage Systems.
  • Experience with Redhat OpenShift Container Platform.
  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and IBM Storage Protect Plus (SPP).
  • Experience with Ansible and Powershell.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Knowledge of Government IT policies and legislation and an understanding of its application on related assignments.

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hrs./week .

Location: Greater Edmonton or Calgary area.

This position is eligible for remote work from within Greater Edmonton or Calgary area.

Final candidates will be required to undergo CRC Level 2 security screening.
