Program Overview
About The Role
Peraton is seeking Summer 2025 Software Engineer Interns to join our team in King George, VA supporting the Combat System Simulation Development (CSSD) program. This program supports software engineering and simulation development for the AEGIS Combat System for the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) located at Dahlgren, VA. The word AEGIS was the shield or breastplate providing physical protection for Zeus and Athena in ancient Greek mythology. Today, AEGIS is the name that refers to both a combat system that protects surface vessels from attacks, and a weapon system that uses computers and high-powered radars capable of tracking enemy targets and guiding weapons to destroy them. There's an entire fleet of AEGIS capable Missile Guided Cruisers and Destroyer ships deployed throughout the world by the United States Navy for the Department of Defense, and our Combat System and Simulation Development (CSSD) team proudly supports this most critical and impressive multi-mission AEGIS combat system.
The team is based out of King George, VA but this role can be supported remotely with candidates willing to commute on-site to Dahlgren occasionally over the summer as needed. Integration testing of CSSD software solutions is conducted in Navy Land Based Test Sites (LBTS) that look and feel like real Navy ship command and control centers. As a result, CSSD team members also learn how pertinent Navy combat systems operate in order to perform software integration testing with real tactical components.
As an Intern, you will learn new skills, explore our enterprise, network with experts, connect with thought leaders and finish with a resume that opens doors. With CSSD you will have the opportunity to understand how modeling and simulation solutions support Navy tactical system development, training, and deployment in order to meet the Navy missions. You will learn the basics of modeling and simulations and how to develop software that is accredited to certify Navy combat systems and train sailors to meet their missions. You will gain insight into the system and software engineering life-cycle to better understand the general engineering process of implementing an operational system.
