Job description

Summary

At GeneDx, we are advancing precision medicine by harnessing the power of genomics and data science. As the Data Apps Product Lead, you will lead the strategy, development, and delivery of data-powered applications that leverage AI/ML and clinical genomics data to transform diagnostic insights and operational efficiency. Your work will enable clinicians, researchers, and biopharma partners to interact with complex genomic data through intelligent, intuitive, and scalable applications.

You will own the roadmap and execution of data applications that turn genomic and healthcare data into actionable experiences—whether for internal operations, external providers, or biopharmaceutical/biotech customers. Partnering closely with engineering, data science, bioinformatics, commercial and clinical stakeholders, you will help GeneDx deliver smarter tools that accelerate diagnosis, streamline workflows, and surface novel insights in rare and undiagnosed disease.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own and lead product strategy, roadmap, and multi-quarter programs for next-generation data applications built on genomic, clinical, and AI-enriched datasets.
  • Build intelligent apps that integrate data visualizations, insights, and decision-support capabilities tailored to users across clinical operations, commercial, and external partners.
  • Lead cross-functional planning across disciplines, including Commercial, Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, and UX, to deliver robust data products that are technically sound, user-centered, and clinically meaningful.
  • Drive execution from prototype to scale—owning requirements, prioritization, stakeholder communication, and delivery milestones.
  • Translate user needs into product functionality, shaping applications that help drive drug discovery, precision medicine and surface critical clinical and variant-level insights.
  • Ensure data governance, compliance, and interoperability, integrating standards like FHIR and HL7 as needed to support clinical data exchange and responsible AI.
  • Define and monitor KPIs such as:
    • Partner adoption and engagement: Percentage of external clients (e.g., biopharma, research collaborators) onboarded to the data application platform within a given timeframe; engagement measured by logins, sessions, or queries per user.
    • Data product revenue contribution: Growth in revenue attributed to the use of data-powered applications (e.g., licensing fees, subscription tiers, or usage-based pricing).
    • Time-to-value for external users: Reduction in time it takes for partners to access and derive insights from GeneDx datasets (e.g., cohort discovery or biomarker exploration), benchmarked by onboarding to first successful use case.
    • Partner satisfaction: Qualitative and quantitative feedback from biopharma and research clients on usability, reliability, and value of the external-facing data application (e.g., measured via NPS or partner success surveys).

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including 5+ years building data-powered or AI/ML-driven applications, ideally in health tech, genomics, or life sciences.
  • Deep understanding of data product architecture, user-centric design for data experiences, and operationalizing insights from structured/unstructured data.
  • Experience working with genomic data (e.g., VCFs, annotations, variant databases) and clinical data models (FHIR, EHRs, claims, phenotypic data).
  • Demonstrated ability to take 0-to-1 products from concept to launch, particularly applications that visualize, interpret, or act on complex datasets.
  • Strong analytical thinking, with comfort making trade-offs between scientific accuracy, technical feasibility, and user value.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills paired with excellent execution and attention to detail.
  • Deep empathy for end users—providers, enterprise customers, patients, and caregivers— and a commitment to making their experience simpler, faster, and more empowering.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, digital transformation, human-centered design, and modern product discovery/delivery practices.
  • A sense of ownership, humility, and mission-driven motivation to improve lives through better healthcare.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MS) or clinical training is a plus

Science - Minded, Patient - Focused.

At GeneDx, we create, follow, and are informed by cutting-edge science. With over 20 years of expertise in diagnosing rare disorders and diseases, and pioneering work in the identification of new disease-causing genes, our commitment to genetic disease detection, discovery, and diagnosis is based on sound science and is focused on enhancing patient care.

Experts in what matters most.

With hundreds of genetic counselors, MD/PhD scientists, and clinical and molecular genomics specialists on staff, we are the industry’s genetic testing experts and proud of it. We share the same goal as healthcare providers, patients, and families: to provide clear, accurate, and meaningful answers we all can trust.

SEQUENCING HAS THE POWER TO SOLVE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES.

From sequencing to reporting and beyond, our technical and clinical experts are providing guidance every step of the way:

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • High-quality testing: Our laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and most of our tests are also New York State approved.
  • Advanced detection: By interrogating genes for complex variants, we can identify the underlying causes of conditions that may otherwise be missed.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

  • Thorough analysis: We classify variants according to our custom adaptation of the most recent guidelines. We then leverage our rich internal database for additional interpretation evidence.
  • Customized care: Our experts review all test results and write reports in a clear, concise, and personalized way. We also include information for research studies in specific clinical situations.
  • Impactful discovery: Our researchers continue working to find answers even after testing is complete. Through both internal research efforts and global collaborations, we have identified and published hundreds of new disease-gene relationships and developed novel tools for genomic data analysis. These efforts ultimately deliver more diagnostic findings to individuals.
