Key Responsibilities
As the Appointed Actuary, the Associate VP, Actuarial Valuation partners with Finance for internal and statutory reporting. He/she completes asset adequacy testing in support of the Actuarial Opinions and Actuarial Memorandums. The AVP also handles actuarial reserves and risk control aspects of state Department of Insurance examinations, external auditors, and internal auditing of reserves and liabilities. Decisions are typically related to intradepartmental coordination, development and implementation of strategic plans, and business outcomes, and develops and implements strategic plans for the scope of management that are aligned with the Segment or Business strategy. This person will also play a key role in driving departmental transformation, as part of Humana’s larger enterprise transformation initiative. The AVP will lead a team of roughly ten associates, with three direct reports.
This position can be located anywhere within the contiguous lower 48 states.
Key Candidate Qualifications
The successful candidate must be qualified to issue NAIC Health and Life Annual Statement opinions under the American Academy of Actuaries’ “Specific” qualification standards, with extensive experience (typically 10+ years) as an Actuary in the healthcare industry. Experience as an Appointed Actuary is preferred. He/she will also have several years of management experience (typically 8+ years), with proven success in expanding and elevating the capabilities and performance of the team. This leader will hold relevant professional designations, such as FSA, ASA, or MAAA. A Bachelor’s degree is required, but an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
